Sum Kee at Gerrard and Jones.

I also really liked the soup at the old Peach Garden, at Yonge and Carlton. I just had it last week and it was great.

North. Red sign, yellow writing. I've ordered before as a neighbour swears by it. It was good! Fresh and has a kick.

Alex, it's really easy to make too.

Kom Jug Yuen. Spadina, east side, S of College, N of Dundas.

Alex - what kind of hot and sour do you like? Clear and thin? Thicker and heartier? There are a few different styles, I think...

(this one is the latter)

my favourite chinese HS soup is from yeuh tung upstairs behind city hall just before dundas – it's very thick, has tons of little shrimp, chicken and veggies.

favorite thai - is from golden thai on church at richmond

Oh man I miss this place. I'm tempted to subway up there today to get it.

for real...

they have this god chicken you might have tried, manchurian chicken..

also, it's a bit of a highjack, but there is the best ramen noodle soup place by yeuh tung, north side of dundas Kenzo Ramen is worth going to too...house made gyoza and some really fierce ramen (try the king of kings ramen, jah bless)

KILLS Pho.

Damon,

When is the last time you were at Yeuh Tung? Is it still on point? Golden Thai too?

Haven't been to either in aaaages because I live in the west end, but I'm tempted to go back to both if they're still the same.

Ya, it's okay. It's pretty and all but I like pho more.
I make fresh ramen a lot at home so this is no biggie. I kinda hate when they give me a bowl full of krill and all those little eyes are looking up at me.

I've only been to the original Kenzo's up in North York though. We drove an hour in rush hour traffic to go there, only for me to be disappointed.

I'm still a pho-natic. Couldn't convert me.

the guaytiaw sukhothai (chicken or beef noodle soup) at sukho thai (parliament & dundas) is a fall delight.
spicy delicious.

sadly, it only comes full of carnage, the soup stock is not veggie.

Have you guys ever made hot and sour soup?

It's basically water, chicken broth + red vinegar OR white rice vinegar OR red wine vinegar or regular vinegar (the least desired option since it's so strong with a dull flavour) + any kind of hot sauce or chili oil.

Throw in sliced mushrooms, tofu, bamboo shoots and meat (optional).

You boil the shit out of it, stir in cornstarch and water to thicken.

Tada.

That's a simple version. If you want to jazz it up, add soy sauce, sesame oil, fungus, lily buds, slice your bamboo shoots, ground pork bits, pork tenderloin slices, green onion, ginger bits if you're sick....
