Bell or Rogers

Hello Tribe,

Im debating which company should I go for when it comes to Internet connection.

Whats good when it comes to monthly payments or whats a good deal out there?

Which one is more reliable?

What package should I go for?
(I usually do some streaming)

If you already have a phone line go with Bell. If you already have cable go with rogers. If you already have both a phone line and cable go with which ever is cheapest. You have to have a standard phoneline to be able to get bell, you have to have standard cable to get rogers so I go with the one I need. Being that I normally live on cell phone I always go with rogers.

I have a rogers cable which is under my name. The question is we have a bell phone which is under someones account. Is it possible to go with bell even tho the phone line that we have is not under our name?

AFAIK, Bell doesn't block the fun stuff like torrents and newsgroups. In hindsight I wouldn't have signed up with cunting Rogers.

Well heres the thing. One of my friend told me that, when u have 3 television thats hooked up to ur cable (splitter) ur connection is pretty much slower. 2nd especially when u only applied for one television. So in other words for every television that u have to hook a cable on they will add another charges to your bill. Is this True?

Well they have no newsgroup support at all anymore, but Rogers' packet shaping affects all unencrypted torrents. My speeds have gone back up a bit with port forwarding, but they're not what they used to be for some reason.

I pay $30 with taxes and everything. It's great even though the customer service is shit.

i don't believe so, unless you are renting a second digital box. i was worried when we had our technician come by as there were existing coaxial cables from the previous tennants. he said i had nothing to worry about and gave us new splitters and what not.

as far as the question at hand, don't go with rogers for internet. i did and i wish i didn't. it's the worst it's ever been recently.

It's truly baffling that they know this is the number one complaint and they still do nothing about it. I sit through meetings here where they talk about it for hours, spend a year implementing a program called "First Time Right" which has done effectively nothing for anyone, and no one addresses the root of the problem. you're paying the people on the front-lines fuck all. up them to 16 bucks an hour, watch their productivity go through the roof, fire the riff raff and move on with very similar overhead and stellar results.

Well, I called the other night and they were great! It's very hit or miss. I mean, for some reason when I call during business hours, it's shit. And they never do what they are supposed to do.. And I always have to call back 3 times or more.. I time my calls too and most of them are over 40 minutes.

But when I called the last weekend (Sunday, 9 PM), it's always pleasant.. Someone is always available.. And it's fast..

Maybe it's a work hours thing? People are just fucking stressed..

And #2: do you hire summer students there for seasonal positions?

and we had a co-op kid once. there was nothing for him to do. I mean, there was shit for us to do, but not a pot-smoking high school hippie. he just sat there. it was more of an inconvenience than anything.

Ill ask some people in Media and Wireless and Cable if they are interested.

Well... If there was nothing for him to do.. Then maybe someone should've spoke to him or the co-op teacher about an action plan to give him tasks..

I mean, I wouldn't let my interns make my calls.. But they can do filing, organize areas or even run errands off site..

And I promise never to bat my eyelashes again if you promise to follow up on that.
Paid positions for students in the summertime.
I can give the employer $700 for each student (ones that are even already there if the employer is nice).
Catch free. Up to the department to hire whoever they want and let me know.

pretty much everytime i have dealt with rogers on the phone they have been fine. i've found that if you are clear about what you are calling about and mention what you have tried already they are far more easy to deal with.

my only beef is that they don't seem to make note of info you tell them. every time i contact them they go through all your info. they can never seem to get my old mobile phone and work info off of their computer records. i might as well just say yes to everything and not even bother.

i wanted to avoid the packet shaping business so i went with sympatico ultra HSE

im paying for an up to 5 meg connection..the line in my building is rated at over 6 megs..for some reason i cant seem to get more than 40 or 50 kB/sec downloads...ive spent 5+ hours on the phone with bell over the last month to no avail. 2 weeks ago the speeds suddenly jumped up to 5 megs for like 4 days..i was so happy. then...poof! right back to slowville. they now have a 2nd ticket open on my account to try to figure out whats going on...

people talk about how bad rogers customer service is..it is..its fucking shit...rogers are a bunch of crooked fucks and id honestly rather have dialip at home than give them any of my money, but bell really isnt any better. its been over a month now and i still cant get anyone to give me a straight answer as to whats going on with my line..

you dont need a phone line btw to get hooked up with stinkpatico

oh, sorry. when you said you cleaned up the theatre and meeting rooms, I just assumed it was Rogers Centre.
I guess "Headoffice Janitor" is much more respectable than "skydome usher".
