Beckham Taken To Hospital After Uefa Champions League Tie

This is the worst fucking day ever! I am speechless. Becks was tackled by a Deportivo La Coruna player for the second time in as many weeks, and was again stretcherd off of the field. United won the game 3-2, and so take the series 5-2 on Aggregate, but Beckham was taken to the hospital and assessed with having broken a bone in his foot.

This is terrible. I am gutted beyond belief. United are in the Semi-Finals of Champions League, which is great news, and I'm over the moon about that, but since Becks won't be back again for the Cup-Tie against Bayer Leverkeusen or the team that plays them in the final if they make it there, it just won't be the same....

ALSO, this has SERIOUS implications for England's World Cup hopes.....He is their captain and does so much for them......I'm gutted at this news, just gutted...... =(

There's still two months before the World Cup, so hopelfully he'll be back in midfield by then.

but as for Man U......HA HA.

There's a saying that goes something like, 'the further away from manchester you live, the bigger the fan you are'. jokes....everyone actually in Manchester supports city, but my cousin who lives in fucking Bognor Regis(south coast) is a mad United fan. I must remember to email him and laugh.....

But for World Cup implications, i hope to god he's back

C'MON BECKS!!!

Bookah!

I heard on Sports World that the early diagnosis is eight weeks, and he will prolly miss the beginning of the World Cup.

On a side note, I think that Man U's black and white jersey are sweet.

ease.

ya, i just checked it.
The bone is indeed broken, six to eight recovery time, and Englands first game is only 7 weeks away.

This is really no good. Thank god Owen didn't break his foot yesterday, only a bad bruise.

fingers crossed

This sucks for ManU, because Id like them to win the euro league in Glasgow... but it really sucks for England... Although, it may mean that Erikkson will change his tactics and give players like... McManaman, Murphy, Barmby and Hargreaves to show how good they really are...

What are they going to do about the freekicks and the crosses though?????

if he doesn't make it back ot the World Cup in time and England doesn't go far, they'll probably blame it on that. If he does come back in time for the World Cup and they still don't go far, they'll proably blame it on the fact that Beckham rushed back so he could "play for England".

EIther way, I love England but they have no chance of winning the World Cup.

vench <------hopes he isn't made to eat his words..........

Who knows, stranger things have happened.

My pick? Italy. All round they have a solid team but can their stars actually play as a team to win?

vench <------since my team is out, I gotta cheer for someone.

I mean also, every player dreams of the World Cup from a young age, and all Becks ever wanted to do was be a footballer. He must be especially upset because this was to be the World Cup that was in the prime of his career.

In France, he did well, until he got sent off, and we all know what ensued after that. Although I persoanally feel he has nothing to prove, and that he has already proven his worth to England 100 times over, you can bet that he wanted to leave his personal mark on this World Cup and make it one to remember for positive reasons. Sure he will play in 2006, but he will be 31 for the 2006 World Cup. Now I'm not saying he won't be great, but athletically and momentum-wise, this was his year to shine in the Three Lions uniform.

I just hope there is a miraculous recovery.....NOBODY deserves it more, and that is a fact.

with only 51 days till the start of the World Cup, injuries are going to play a big part in who does well at the WC.

and to say that he deserves it more than anyone else is pretty silly.

England are just one of many teams who have players who will be struggling to make it back in time.

a few other injured players that come to mind

-Robert Pires
-Rui Costa
-Simao Sabrosa
-Sa Pinto
-Roy Keane

I guess none of these other guys bagged a spice girl though

Louie, short of the guy who got shot in Colombia for fucking up on the pitch, who has endured more for what happened in France '98? The guy was burnt in effigy all over England for christ sakes! Churches in their signs out front had written everywhere: "God Forgives Even David Beckham". At every Premiership ground, when he took corners fans threw things at him, booed him everywhere, called his wife a whore, a bitch, Liverpool and Arsenal fans said they'd kill her. There were new songs made to chant abuse at him....it is well documented that threats in the crowds and chants in the stands toward killing or maiming his baby boy Brooklyn occured quite commonplace. In Euro 200 Fans shouted that they were going to "kill his wife and they hoped his son got cancer and died". This was a great multitude of people. There is sport and there is life....you can't tell me that he is a target because he is a pro athlete.......that is not sports, that is condemnation.

There was wide speculation that he would quit...but he persevered. I love a story with determination, and the ability of individuals to rise in defiance in the face of unquestionably staggering odds and bring the victory that will last forever and a day.....

Beckham led his club to their best season ever after France '98. He was MVP pf the team after their UNPRECEDENTED Treble Winning Year. No club had ever one the Domestic Cup, Domestic League, and Champions League before. Most doubt it will ever be done again. He then continued to play well and within a few years earned the right to wear the armband for England as their captain.

He then proceeded to play so incredibly in the World Cup qualifiers, that most would argue he single handedly steered them into qualification, and fans at all the grounds in England respect him and chant his name now when he plays for England despite how much they hate United.

That kind of turn around doesn't happen today my friend, not anymore, and NOT in England. Think of things that get famous in England for bad reasons. Stigma is attached there and it sticks! The royal family and Charles specifically for example. English football is a phenomenon because it is the country in the world that most expects total victory in Football with the most outside chance of attaining it. All other religiously footballish countries (Argentina, Brazil, etc.) have a much better chance of this goal, the pundits would agree.

Heros are made, not born, and apart from also having amazing fashion sense, and dabbling in spinning, David Beckham is my idol because he became a hero when his country needed him to be one! =)

Don't tell me you didn't know it was coming! haha! =)

Ok u make a good point in a way........BUT!!!

I'm sure there's a lot of other players on other teams that have gotten the same abuse for one reason or another, and just because Beckham is a pretty boy and married to a Spice girl he's on the news everyday and everyone gets to her it.......

There's prolly another player suffering the same shit out there right now and nobody knows about it cause it's not talked about on every corner of the globe.....

So tell me again why pretty boy deserves it more than anyone else???

Louie, he was the most hated man in England. Beckham is a star yes, but would we not hear about it if Zidane was hated for France? Raul for Spain? and so on. I see what you mean about his pop-star celeb status because of his marriage, but If we don't hear about a player getting hate in pro football that is a major club and international star, then it isn't happening. Trust me, when Portugal hates Figo, we'll know about it! The funny thing is that he didn't even deserve the sending off, AND he scored a vital goal the game before against Colobia to put them through to that point in '98 anyway.....how quickly they forget eh???

I really don't think players have been as villainized as he has, and I think you would be hard-pressed to find a footballer who has...but you are welcome to try. My point is not to discount the other footballers out there. All I am saying by the deserving part is that he went through the adversity AND plays as big a role for his country as ANY of those aforementioned players.....Most of those players are gods in their countries, not loathed...no matter what they do.

All things relative??? in my opinion, Baggio is far more a criminal for missing his penalty for Italy in the FINAL against Brazil. His condemnation was a walk in the park compared to what Becks went through. As I say the Colombian player who was muredered was the only one who I know got worse dealings.

We can agree to disagree, and I'm not asking you to accept that he is the best in the world (though I do). If a player is villainized and plays for Congo (or whatever it is now....) ok, point taken. But point me to someone in one of the FIFA top 15 teams that has endured this. We are after all talking about the world stage and the big time teams with the big pressure. certain teams have fanatical fans, but you and I both know they don't even expect to qualify for let alone win the World Cup........

"He has broken a metatarsus (bone) in his foot and will be out for six to eight weeks. It was a bad tackle but games of football are about tackles and the player had to go for it."

I sometimes wonder when they give out these reports on how long guys are going to be injured for and find them to be fairly inaccurate. It gives the player a scapegoat for being injured and not preforming well, or makes a great comeback miracle story drama, when he wasn't really hurt that badly in the first place.

I would like to see England do well in the World Cup, since Netherlands is out, and Canada will never make it anytime soon.

I think that Italy will do well, as will France. I also like Portugal, Nigeria, Argentina.
