back room at system

see comments in the review section for anthony pappa...i think mixed emotions...the fact a lot of the sound from the main room leaks into the backroom seems to be the main concern...

it would be cool to turn it into something like industrys back room...

& keep the focus on up & comers in the backroom...

If you call that room down the stairs that's really small and had about 30 people in it when I looked.. then yeah.. it's open... but It didn't seem too cozy for me

personally i like it.

i think the paint job looks great.

i think the little bar in the corner is cool.

i think its a very intimate space with a very visible dj 'booth', if you can even call it a booth.

i think its a really great showcase for good local talent, and i really like deep house, which is all i have heard back there so far.

however, the sound needs to be improved.
1) i think its too loud for such a small room

2) do the DJs have a monitor yet? because it sure as hell hasn't been sounding like it so far.

the back room is wicked now... i loved it on saturday. the sound was better,... the bar actually down the stairs now is nice and its' pretty bright.. much nicer than the crappy darkness from before... and no more flashing lights...sound bleed is not existant if you're in the back room or actually in the main room. if you stand in the walk way between the two, there might be some bleed, but you'd be an idiot for standing right there anyways.

oh, and if anyone mentions having anyone but the blueprint guys back there, i'll smack you. they always impressed me and i think they should keep there spot back there. they are always a refreshing change to the main room. if you get rotating up and comers, the room will suck; too many nights of having the same music in two rooms.... no good there. most nights i've been to system on a saturday, the blue print guys have played better than the main room, and i usually hang out back there

lol.. yeah.. I stood there for a minute.. then I realized even though it was nice and spacy to dance.. you can't dance there.. as the bleed from both rooms fuck up your rhythm

I thought it was pretty cool. I was only in there to take a peek, but the layout looked pretty decent. And hey, they have a real mixer in there now too!!! :p

Peace & love. D

remember the old DJ booth in the left hand corner?
well, that same space is now taken up by a wee little bar.

the DJ booth is now basically a table against the left hand wall approximately equidistant from the stairs to the back wall.
yeah, thats right: equidistant.

i think they should do something similar to the 'acid lounge' at the guvernment.
some big bean bag chairs, no music, a nice little bar or two...that'd be safe!

I thought the sound in there was pure ass.

I was really unimpressed with the sound in the whole club (well save for VIP) after the renovation.

I like a lot of people who are associated with System, either as DJs, promoter, hosts and what-not, and I wanna support the place, but damn, those improvements to sound can't come soon enough.

Then again, I'm completely spoiled by Stereo's sound, which nothing in Toronto can hold a candle to.

guess i'll weigh into my own thread.

i don't like it at all.

- extremely bright coloured lights that don't move make it feel like a circus or something.
- 1 couch and one very awkward sitting contraption make for one very unchillable room. i used to enjoy sitting down for an hour and just relaxing to the tunes. now that's virtually impossible.
- i liked the whole stepping down into darkness thing. the musics deeper back there so it fit the vibe, and it felt like a real comfort zone for getting away. now it feels like... anything but comfort.
- sound is pants
- sound bleed is noticeable and annoying

on the plus:
- bar is good

i don't know - overall it seems like a real waste of space with a huge corner of the building unusable due to sound bleed and awkward traffic flow.

thumbs down for design so far...

If I had known that the backroom was open, perhaps I might actually have danced for longer than 5 minutes on Friday...maybe.

When we went to look back there around 11:30, there was a folding screen in front of the entrance way, so I just assumed it was closed up for the night.

At least I could've heard some nice danceable music.

I got offered an opportunity to spin in the backroom at system last night and I kinda declined until they purchase a new sound system there. For a bar that makes the money that they do on a weekly basis there is no need for a dj to have to play on that.

If they don't buy a new system I think they should get rid of it and make it a chill room?
