ATTN GAMERZ: Sick of WWII FPS?

Well you shouldn't puke when you hear the word "Kraut" just yet...

I present to you:
Battlefield: 1942

The main difference from this and other FPS games is you can do a helluva lot more than just run around with 7 different guns.

...adding a variety of easily controllable vehicles -- tanks, jeeps, biplanes, helicopters and more -- it became a unique experience...

They created their own engine to be able to do this and I know alot of you don't like playing games that aren't based on either the quake III or Half-Life engine but I think the screenshots speak for themselves.

An Excellent observation. Perhaps it's part of an undercover infiltration. Even though it seems that they're in the pacific campaign. I doubt an mp-40 ever came anywhere neer the pacific battles!

Haha, Just finished Dungeons Siege in Single Player yesterday. Not bad... 3 days worth of playing and I'm done.

Granted I did play on Easy, but at least I can leave the damn game alone for a bit now... damn obsession

Im pretty sure its a The Thompson submachine gun. And to add, Thompson is an all-round field weapon of .45 caliber. It weighs 12.5 pounds when fully loaded with a 30-round magazine and is 33 inches long. The M1928 Thompson fires between 600 and 700 rounds per minute.

I don't think that's either the mp40 or thompson. The thompson had a wood grip, an attachment at the back of the gun for a strap. The mp40 didn't have the bit on the top of the barrel that the pictured gun does. The pictured gun looks more like the STG44 than anything else.

Multiplayer...

There are a variety of game modes planned for Battlefield, featuring the tried-and-true Axis-vs.-Allies formula, including traditional Capture the Flag and Team DM. There's also a co-op mode, in which you can play against the computer with your buddies, or if you choose, you can play on opposite teams with computer AI rounding out the teams.

The most interesting gametype, however, is the new "Conquest" mode, which appeared to be the main style of gameplay in Battlefield: 1942. In some ways, it resembles capture-and-hold from Team Fortress, in which you "claim" a territory (in this case, flags), by standing next to it for a few seconds. Each team starts with a number of respawn "tickets" (the games we played started with 300), and each time a player on your team is killed and respawns, your team loses a ticket. As the other team claims capture points, they rapidly drain your tickets away, so the game becomes a huge battle of territorial control, with both teams going back and forth until one team loses all their tickets.

Indeed. A Mighty game. What part are you at now Stan?

I just finished getting through the part with all the spiders and killed the big boss spider thingy, and now I'm in some dwarven mines.

This game is fuck addictive. The spider caves were freaky as shit. The scuttling sounds and the sound those spider things made as they attacked had me jumping out of my skin (especially at 5am with the lights turned out).

I'm still in that huge cave complex where the spiders are... I got to the one bigger room that kind of sinks in at the middle and keep getting my ass kicked. Is that much farther from the end?

This is the cave complex that the party needs to take because the door to that one town is blocked... I think it's just the second chapter.

I friggin' HATED that part. SO MANY DAMNED SPIDERS IN THAT GIANT ROOM!!!!!!!

I left all my lackies at the main entrance (spell caster, 2 archers and mule) and just took my two figthers along the walls ever so slowly to take on as few spiders at a time. I remember the one time I got swarmed and just started running and then more spiders would join in and then more. Luckily enough I got to a corner and only a few stayed in persuit so they were easily beatable. Then I just inched my way along the walls again.

If your weaker guys get surrounded by the swarm of spiders, forget it. They're toast.

The big spider room (before the big boss spider) isn't that hard. Just make sure to go SLOWLY. My party had four people in it at this point. Two guys were the front men and had the most armor and hack / slash weapons. The other two were spell archers / spellcasters and had short recurve bows and heal prepared. If you see large groups of monsters, you can pick them off one at a time using the good ol' ambush technique. This is where you have three guys armed with bows, lying in wait. Then you select the fourth guy as "bait", and have him edge in just close enough where he attracts the attention of one of the monsters, then have him run back to the main group and they should be able to take out the monster pretty quickly. Repeat ad nauseum.

Ya. The only problem I have (or what I don't like about the game) is the settings for your party members (i.e. how they attack). I have them on "defend" (i.e. attack only when attacked) because otherwise the weak archers and mages go charging in, get surrounded and swarmed. On defend, as long as they're close enough, they'll start shooting as soon as my fighters get swiped at. But the problems is, if they're a little far behind, they'll sit there like idiots. Oh well, it's not a big gripe, just a small annoyance.

Now my guys are getting their ass kicked by an ice breathing serpent as evil archer type dudes blast them from far away. I sit there pounding my "H" button but it isn't working. I must change my strategy. And the Ice Serpent isn't even a boss monster. Oh well.
