Ascension 6

For those who've never gone to an ascension!! Make it a must!!! There are only 2 more left at industry cuz it's closing down!! Industry is a great place nice intimate venue and great sound system!!

To the party review...We got to the party around 10:30 or so....finding parking was a bitch!!! We found a spot...there is more to the story and i'll leave it to the end.

When we got in it was Frank Phenomena spinning, i've never heard him spin b4...but it was HYPe!! When he busted Binary Finary!! It got the whole place jumping!!! I only caught the last bit of his set so i don't know how it was b4 then. Next was Os/2....once again he spun a hard set!!! The bass was ripping thorough me and all the songs were packed with MAD ENERGY!!!

Now for the headliners...i was sorta weary about ollie jaye since i've never heard him spin but his set was by far my favourite of the nite!!! He started it off with a little Binary...even though it was the 2nd in the nite i heard it, it was ok....but later in his set he'd scratch into tracks and i was just going WILD!!! As for Jon the DENTIST!!! His set was equally SiCk!!!! Spinning hard thumping trace!!!! If these were the only 2 djs i caught all nite i would still leave a pretty happy partier!!

Dr trance...was...DR TRANCE!!! Spun some nice mellow trance....great way to come off the energy of ollie jaye and the dentist. By the time Dekoze got on, i was pretty tired....had my self a nap and danced a bit...then it was time to go at 6:45am.

@ the end was when it turned SHITTY!!! We went back to where we parked the car and guess what?? TOWED!!!! FUcking Towed down the street for $145 clams!!! This mad it into quite the expensive party!!! I know i wasn't the only one cuz i saw of bunch of ya and told you what it's gonna cost as i left with my car...

So out of 10 i'd give the party an 9!!!! I just thought it was amazing!! I can't wait till ascention 7!!!

that's all i gotta say!!

remembertopb4ugo2bed@yahoo.com

p.s. I know you'r gonna read this jay.....see i gave this party a 9!!!

Hey Man,

My friends and I ran into the same problem. I am willing to bet that you parked in the gas station lot across the street right? Well so did we during the first Ascension, and ended up having to pay those bastards $145 too. It clearly stated that a tow was like $65 on the board in the shop, but the friggen a*hole working there would not speak back to us unless we were giving him the money.

Just so you know...there is a van sitting in that parking lot. Someone sits in there, waits for people to come park, and then calls the tow place to come take the car. Little scam they got worked up, hopefully enough people will read this and not run into the same problem.

Also, there is underground parking for Industry, just go around the back, and it's pretty cheap too.

Peace,
Steve

That was one BIG benefit of going to Industry. Cheap, Underground parking right UNDER the club. A blessing during the winter month's when you could go directly from warm club to warm car.

Tried to park in the undergroud but it was closed. Ya and i did notice it did say $65 on the board but the lady said the rest was for storage...What the hell is that?? They tow my car like a block store it for 3 hrs and get 145 clams.....Shit!! i should get a tow truck tow all their fucking tow trucks to my house and make them pay for it!!

OK Alfred now it's my turn to review Ascension 6.
First of all, I would like to reiterate points made earlier, that every one should take this opportunity, while they still can, to attend an Ascension party they have the perfect balance of sick DJ's, great sound system, great crowd and vibe.
I would also like to commend the security at industry, you dont see them all night, at least I didnt, I like when they are inexistent and you dont have them roaming around the floor bumping into all the people dancing. KUDOS!!

Ascension 6 did not fall short of its predecessors as far as the music was concerned cause this party had it all.

Frank Phenomena started it off. It is usually hard for the first DJ to hype up the crowd when the place is still empty, but not for this guy, he basically spun all of the best trance tracks you have ever heard, like Airwave, Binary Finary, Three Drives, etc.

OS/2 was next, he never fails to impress, he doesnt play all the big recognizable tracks, but he rips it up with his incredible, unique hard style. I love it.

Ollie Jay, and Jon the Dentist were both great, I enjoyed them some much more than the last Acension party with Robert Oleysck.
With Ollie Starting off with a wicked Binary remix and the scratching the trance like a madman, how could you not be impressed. And the Dentist followed it up with an equally sick set. I really like when you see DJ's like these guys having so much fun up there, partying so hard just like the crowd, it really rubs off on the crowd.

Dr. Trance and De-Koze were there usual selves with the DR. spinning his mellow beats and De-Koze mixing it up. De-koze killed me with Heaven's Earth to finish it off.

My only beefs about this party were the line-up order, I would have rather seen OS/2 later in the night. My other is the lack of parking around industry, we got our fucking car towed and as said earlier it cost us $150 bones, that is ridiculous. You would think that would put a hige damper on the party, but this party was so good, in fact MY BEST EVER!!! so not even the car being towed could have ruined it for me.
Thanks to all my old, and new friends who were there to experience it with me like always.

I give this party a 9.5/10
(Take that Alfred)

Jay

As stated above, Ascension parties never seem to disapoint, of the last three
I've been to this one was by far my best as far as the tunes were concerned.
The crowd was really hype too, the guy with the "TUNE!" sign was going insane,
for those of you who attended you know who I'm talking about,
I love to see people so pumped up it just gets me going that much harder
on the dance floor. Now for the tunes:

Frank Phenomena - he spun some really popular tracks trying to get everyone
on to the floor, and it worked, first time i've seen him spin and he impressed me
os/2 - like always he spun his usual hard set with some obscure tracks,
he never dissapoints, you're right Jay i like to see him spin a little later on in the
night too
Ollie Jay - this guy was going psycho behind the decks getting the crowd hyped,
then he got into the scratching i had to stop dancing and see this for myslef,
when i was up on the speakers i could appreciate his technical abilities that
much more, he was going through records like a mad man
Jon the Dentist - again a sweet set getting the crowd going, it seemed like they
were having a party up there - a lot of Heineken empites - with Jon spining and Ollie
cheering him on, then he slowed down the end of his set with some nice mellow trance
which led perfectly into the next set
Dr. Trance - like always, never disapoints, nice mellow tunes, a good break from the
madness that went on earlier
De-Koze - good set, even though it was late he still had the crowd up on their feet
a few times, finished off with "Heaven's Earth" a sweet tune, crowd cheered for more
but security kicked us all out

ps. alfred sucks to hear about your car getting towed

The thing that I was impressed with the most was Ollie Jay's set.
We got to the party about half way through his set...I couldnt believe I heard about 4 or 5 pre-1994 tracks. WIKKED!!

My faith in Jon the Dentist has been reaffirmed after this party.

Dr. Trance was great as usual...

Dekoze is by far my favorite last set of the night DJ.
Just watching him getting into the music is enough to keep you dancing past 6 am!!
Kinda reminds me of a sane Mark E.G.!!!

I agree totally that security at these parties is very casual.
I would give this party a 10/10...
great music...
great people...
great venue....

See you all at Ascension 7!!

Oh yeah..we scored parking right on King street at 12:30!!!!
Guess we were lucky!! It sucks having to deal with a bunch of impound idiots after a party!!

Peace
Bill

You might want to know that Industry security is ALWAYS watching. If you look around carefully you will find that there is a Security Trooper hidden in every dark, shadowy corner in the place. I've also noticed that the 'golden handshake' work's on 'em every time.

You guys are so right, the ascension parties have been wicked every time. Some better then others, but all have been worthwhile by far. The venue is great (where else can you find a comfy seat any time you want). The crowd is always awesome, and the vibe is always there. Having been to everyone I feel like a good time is guaranteed. To the most part I find that people have been hesitant to go to Industry due to its Saturday night crowd/reputation. But this has lead to a nice bunch of people ending up there. The DJ's were wicked, I could go through them but nothing can be said that hasn't already been said. My fav's of the night were Ollie Jaye and De-Koze. I was glad to hear that there will be two more ascensions. Hopefully the night will be kept and moved to a similar type venue (not Tropicana). See you all at the next one...

until then Faze out.....

As mentioned by everyone else, another great Ascension party. Ollie Jaye and Jon the Dentist were amazing - I'm sure I would have been dancing non-stop all night if my energy wasn't on low for some reason. It was an excellent night anyway.
Ascension never disapoints.

Note to Dr. Trance (if you're reading this) what was the 2nd or 3rd track into your set? Even though I was kind of wiped, I had to get up and go totally off to it!

Party on ....

Although I got there late (around 5) I still had a great time while I was there, as with all other Ascension parties... they're pretty much a 'guarranteed' good time!

Respect to all those involved and to those that make it out to create the party.

I had a great time. There's definitely something to be said for being able to have a drink while listening to some great songs.

Pretty much everything has been said aboiut the party. I just want to add this though.

To the guy with the TUNE sign. TUNE signs are good and all but Don't hold up a bloody TUNE sign for every single song! They not all "TUNE'S". It defeats the purpose of acknowledging a true "TUNE" when you hold up the sign for every song.

My two cents.

common silver, you didn't think the guy was hillarious
i doubt he'll be reading this since he's from birtain, he was just cheering on
his boys from back home, didn't you see Jon the Dentist loving it and giving him the "T",
he was a little intense but i really dobut he was sober, didn't bother me,
i just thought i'd say something since i mention him in my review,
i still laugh when i think back

Well I didn't realize he was from the UK and in that case I would see it as more of an inside joke/rib between him and the DJs (seeing as the TUNE signs are dead over there).

Hey, Part-T...I really don't remember the tracks I play at each party (and I played 5 times this past week). Can you tell me anything about the music? Did it have any vocal samples-or maybe a long breakdown with bongo drums?
Otherwise I'm not going to be able to help you on this one.
In the future, if you're curious about a track, don't hesitate to come to the booth right after my set. I keep the tracks in order after I play them, so I can suually figure out right then and there what's what if somebody asks.
Thanks to everyone for the positive vibe and the good words about our Ascension parties. There will be two more at Industry; we're looking for another space in which to continue, but most clubs don't want to do once per month events. Turbo, System and onic are all out of the picture. The Warehouse has offered, but that's much too big for what we're trying to do with the night. Most people don't seem to like to go to club nights at The Opera House, and The Bop is a stye. Any other suggestions?
And for those of you who have been towed-you're not alone. I've been towed twice: once right after that guy in the van started watching the gas station lot, and once from the grassy area a block behind the club (officially known as a "boulevard"). I personally feel the gas station guy gets a cut for every car he calls in, but that's something we'll never be able to prove, now is it? The only good thing about the situation is after Industry closes, those tow vultures are going to be making a whole lot less money.

Hey Dr. Trance..

What about Limelight?
I know a lot of peeps arent crazy about that club...BUT...it does have a good system...it has the rooftop patio...and lately they seem to be jumping on the Trance bandwagon (since Pure Wednesdays packed up to go the Guv)

After all...its better than Tropicana, right?

I thought the Warehouse werent going to host parties anymore????

Peace

Yes Dr. Trance,I agree with green_souljah on Limelight. It is a nice club with a kick ass sound system and good lighting. The balcony level could be used as the 19+ area. Trance Mission is already there every Sunday w/ Jason Marshall, Prophecy, and Billy Cox. We could turn the place into some sort of "Trance Mecca"...just a thought =)

Well,
now it's time for my two cents.
I must admit, I've been to all the Ascensions except the first and the fourth and the crowd at this one was by far the BEST. It was an older crowd (like me....OLD), so that pleased me - no sketchy 13 yr. olds on the floor.
Didn't care much for Ollie Jay but like someone else mentioned, Jon's set has restored my faith in him. I saw him at the Destiny/Big Bud a few months ago and wasn't all that impressed but the set at Industry was solid.
I didn't get to see Dr. Trance
frown.gif
or De-koze double
frown.gif
because i went outside to flier for an upcoming party. Does anyone rememeber me? Short dark hair, wearing glasses and a skirt with a red jacket.
Anyway, re: parking. It does suck that we are no longer allowed to park underground - i'm not sure why that is. Just for all of you who got towed - I found parking East of Industry on King. It was a bit of a trek but you can park there all night at no cost. Just be careful and read the signs - i.e. "by permit only". Toronto is brutal for towing (and i've been towed twice in the past year), so just look around, there's parking you just have to be willing to look and maybe walk a mile.

see you all at the next one.
