I heard Area51 is no more.
If that's true...

Can anybody recommend where to go for hard dark/evil techno/darkstep/trance beats?

R31570R parties .... (or the DarkRaves every month at the Reverb ...)

See discussion in the Party Reviews section.

I was at the last one & it was a blast!

there weren't enough people coming out... so Jason made it a monthly thing.

sometimes by 5am it'd be me and three other people dancing (dancing mind you) and sometimes it would be more crowded.. but they couldn't keep it runnin.

oh memories...

My info is that new tenants above Area51 complained about the volume (what exactly did they expect?). The club turned the volume down. The pattern repeated. Turn-out suffered accordingly.

That's what I heard anyway; who knows what the truth really is.

I do. My g/f dj'd there @ Devotion Fridays... it's run by Purple Heaven promotor Jason Marshal.

The crowd wasn't turning out, so it had to be made a monthly thing in a bigger venue. you just missed one last weekend. IT WAS DOPE!

if you like that type of music and vibe check out purple-heaven.com for upcoming events!

Kevin it is on the second page of upcoming events.

Money wasn't the issue that closed it.

as far as I know, it was a number of factors dealing with the cops. Noise complaints being a major factor.

I guess it's cause the buisness district is expanding, and they wanted to "clean up" the area.

Then again... Id've thought the big stip club beside Area would be the first target... but... It must be making too much money...

But no worries.

[shameless plug]

Datura will satify all your goa/psy techno needs. And there will be some dark, as well as some not so dark stuff played

And starting April, it'll be weekly, not bi-weekly.

Area had been going for 5 years. Thats a long time when you consider it, its alot of work and energy I can't imagine the time and life cost it must have been for the owners.

Hats off Sandro, John, Matt, Dan, Greg, Tim five years of great partying and an excelent vibe. Good timing on the close as well boys!

Bad decor, and not so good of a crowd!

sorry but I am just being honest!

And thats why it was good timing. Its hard to be a small market club and not become very stale and old. They did very well but things were starting too head in a direction that wasn't necessarily what the place seemed to be about. Things were getting a little to played out and to familiar the ones who loved the place were bored and it was no longer the hidden away little spot.

Everything has its prime time, 5 years is a long time.
