David Bowie, Moby, Canadian DJ Tiesto, and Aussie sensations The Avalanches will share the bill in a dozen cities on what is rapidly shaping up as the summer's most adventurous tour, Area2, organizers announced Monday.
The musical-stew of a festival is a sequel to the Moby-organized Area: One outing of last year. The multi-act spectacle will pull into Canada for one date, Aug. 8 at the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto. Tickets go on sale for that date on Friday (May 3).
"My goal with the Area Festival is to put together a festival that's genuinely interesting and eclectic, and I think that with this year's line-up, we've more than surpassed ourselves", Moby said in a statement.
Along with the big names mentioned above, the lineup includes John Digweed, DJ Dan , DJ Tim Skinner, and the return of Carl Cox. More acts will be added shortly.
Moby will be touring behind the kinder, gentler "18" (out May 14), his follow-up to the multi-platinum "Play". Bowie's much anticipated reunion with '70s and '80s collaborator Tony Visconti, "Heathen", comes out June 11.
Area2 is a joint venture produced by Moby and his American managers Marci Weber and Barry Taylor. It is being presented by Clear Channel.
