are you illiterate?

it seems as if some people are, with the various misunderstandings and inability to read what others are trying to say.

so, my question is, are you illiterate? are you capable of deciphering meaning behind words? do you know what the previous two sentences say?

if it all looks like gibberish to you, kasufhafhaisfhuiauefhiqufhaifhasfhashfiashfaiushdfasdhihansd. askdjhasiduhaksjdhasjkldn? weariuhweiurywieurhjmzfb!

i bet it's the coke. i've noticed, it tricks you. because it makes you think faster, but it makes you think less and it makes you more easily dichotomized.

i tried doing it, and then reading. it didn't work.

Hey Nat, it was all gibberish to me until this. Now I understand everything. There's a lot of meaning in Mr. T "Jibba-Jabba" speak.

But seriously, I know exactly what you mean, Nat...

I blame the short attention spans.

If you look around, you'll see plenty of people write "Haven't read the thread....but here's my opinion..."

I have been guilty of this in the past, but now I make a point of going through the thread.

well, we *are* the sesame street generation. we're used to constant blips and sound bites, information coming towards us and being processed at a fast rate...no wonder we have add, we're the attention deficit generation.

"i pity the poor foo".

gee, maybe some people *are* capable of reading, they're just ignorant. that's a scary thought.

In some ways it's just the product of the environment. We're getting used to having info relayed to us instantaneously. Remember that CNN had cameras on the world trade centre mere minutes after the first plane hit. That instantaneous response that we get seems to be more important than the accuracy and fact checking that is going on. Same thing applies here and any other message board. Many of us have an impulse to be the first to say something.

Sorry, just looking at a bigger picture and comparing it to the current situation.

In some ways, yeah, there's plenty of ignorance going around on the board. It happens. Some people are only reading what they want to read or what placates them. If they want to live a little fairy tale world of their own, let them. Fuck 'em if they can't handle the truth or take the time out to check their facts, these are the people who just sit there and like to have information spoon fed to them and not ask questions about the source and it's agenda.

Possibly it could stem from the fact that some don't spend 95 percent of their time reading every fool's point of view, while at the same time picking through a thesaurus to refer to a hundred long words that all mean the exact same thing. You post your own opinions, and if some don't agree, then they can post theirs. How is this considered illiterate? Do you have some examples or are you just praising your holier-than-thou I Was An English Major vocabulary? Gosh it must be hard constantly bringing yourself down to normal human level - how do you do it?

Having a list of other people's quotes, painstakingly trying to pick one that would seem suitable for each and every little thread - that's gotta take some time too........;)

This is by no means a personal attack.:D

maybe they should...people often misunderstand one another. if it takes 95% of one's time to understand *every* fool's point of view, then they're the fool. open comm-unication tho, i'm a strong believer. maybe you've heard of it?

while at the same time picking through a thesaurus to refer to a hundred long words that all mean the exact same thing.

i think having a good vocabulary is a definite asset, wouldn't you say? the-saurus? wazzat? some sorta dino-sawer?

You post your own opinions, and if some don't agree, then they can post theirs. How is this considered illiterate?

i never said it was. i was just making general commentary...and sometimes i wonder if others read anyone else's writing but their own, considering the degenerative arguments on this board.

ha! i was never an english major.:) in fact, i never even graduated university. how do i bring myself "down to normal human level"? well, i just tell myself that we're all equal, but each with a set of different and unique experiences. that usually does it.

ooh, does that little winky-face mean that you're just joking? very cute! i haven't quoted anything for awhile, if you've noticed, 'cuz me brain ran out. i have dozens of stoo-pid quotes stuck up there...and after recycling them over n' over i got tired of it. now i only use 'em on spesh~ial occasions.

This is by no means a personal attack.:D
:)d

on the contrary, i think it was...thanks for bringing a smile to my face, sweetums.:) <claps> if you feel the need to berate me, go ahead and do so...doesn't bother me at all. as i mentioned, (if you had taken the time to listen,) a discussion or argument is just that, and *not* a personal vendetta. but if you want to continue to hold a grudge go right ahead.

i'll make this a personal attack. :p

you, mr looped, :)D, whatever you call yourself, are the king of the phenomenon that nat is refering to you. you are the single, ruling and undisputed champion - the most likely to misunderstand, misconstrue, or misinterpret what other people post. i don't know if you do it on purpose, because you like to argue, or it's because you seriously lack certain reading comprehension skills that you should have mastered by grade 6.
either way, grow up.

oh, i'm sorry, did i use words that are too big for you? this may help. :p
