The phone was given to me by the apple store...not jailbroken not unlocked.

remember guys, I came in 3 weeks ago with a 8G 3G....I walked out with a 3GS 16 gig.

all the 3G and 3GS phones are locked to a carrier.

they would have given you a phone that was locked to the same carrier that your old phone had.

there is a paper trail for that exchange.

when you brought it in again and they restored it, the phone would have erased all other software and been locked to the original carrier.

there is also a paper trail for that.

seriously, if you didnt jailbreak your phone..bring it back into the store. they will be able to catch the mistake. if it is their mistake.

Dude, who doesn't get a receipt? lol
The paperless option still uses power and energy. And she still had to write down your email on a piece of paper.
Not true. Apple stores can do entirely paperless transactions. There are roving employees on the floor who can swipe your card, input your email address on their touch device and email you the receipt. No pen, no paper, all electronic. There is still a trail of course!

As a rule I try to avoid paper receipts and paper bills where at all possible, so I opted for this option when I was there.

You don't mean a literal paper trail do you? Because that may not be the case.

I would be it is jailbroken though.

Oh right. I rarely see email errors as a result of electronic entering. You typically type it in and say "is this correct?" It's usually when you handwrite an email that something goes wrong, particularly if you give the paper to the customer and the sender can't read it after the fact. I just assumed it was written down.

Also, my point really was that using their electronics to do business probably has the same effect on the environment (devices, electricity, e-waste, manufacturing the devices) than getting a hard copy receipt printed. Just sayin'.

I've had to do a swap of my iphone4 for another iphone4. Trust me. If you did it at that store there would be a record of the serial number for the new one and they can easily look that up paper receipt or not. Your story is not lining up and sounds fishy.

More than a laptop computer. It's ridiculous to me how much people are willing to shell out for a phone.

Apple geniuses broke my iphone!

So I went in to the eaton centre iphone to get replacement headphones which went ok. I mentioned that me phone is having some dropped calls issues and the genuis ran a diognostic. he reported back that there is something wrong with the firmware and that he would do a restore. which I said sure

he came back ten minutes later and said that my phone was locked to another carrier and that I have to go unlock it to get it working again....

MY PHONE WAS WORKING PERFECTLY FINE WITH THE GODDAMN MOST RECENT UPDATE...

I explained this to him he passed me off to the spikey haired tattoo wanna be uber geek who basically said that they shouldnt even be helping my phone in the first place because it was an apparent unlocked "illegal" phone...

the funny thing is...THE SAME APPLE STORE GAVE ME THIS IPHONE 3GS AFTER I TOOK IN MY IPHONE 3 G COMPLAINING ABOUT A MALFUNCTION 3 WEEKS AGO!!!!!!!

Now, I can't unlock my phone myself cus it's giving me problems not to mention I am without a phone.

tribe please help what the shit is this crap!

Ask to speak with a manager. Explain all this to him and it will be taken care of. If they gave you the phone and you didn't jail break it, there should be no problem.

Ok that is odd, but if that was the case and I was doing business in this manner I'd be checking my email on the spot before I left the store to be sure that I received the receipt.Mistakes/typos happen all the time. You don't spend hundreds of dollars on something and walk out with no evidence that you ever did business there.

The email isn't as important as the serial # of the device. They will have a record of the serial # leaving the store and when and to who.

Update:

I called apple canada support and opened a case number with them.

They think the issue is my sim card is damaged so I'm going to telus and get a new one...they walked me through the process so that once a telus undamged sim card is installed the phone should work

The phone, according to apple, is locked to telus and has been since I got it.

If that fails then I am to call thier direct number where they will call the store and arrange a replacement with no issues.

Apple Canada is extrememly supportive and I have multiple "senior advisors" stating that my phone will be repaired by apple pending sim card activation.

Thanks for all the support and suggestions.

Wiseman, you can go back to the mom thread and blow me.

I think your missing a key point.

I brought in an unlocked 3G...APPLE GAVE ME a 3GS as a replacement. the card that was in the original 3G was my telus card. THE 3GS APPLE ISSUED ME...was by all accounts locked to TELUS as she popped in my sim card and away I went.

I remember I went into the apple store wearing a blue shirt once.

I was listening to some ipods or something. ANd some lady started staring at me... and staring... and then getting huffy....

So I take out the headphones and she's like "what do I have to do to get some service around here?" And I'm like, "lady, I don't work here."

Anyway, phones drop calls. It happens. Also I don't see how firmware is gonna "change" or affect RF performance.

"Dont taze me tro!"

Alex,

the funny thing is, is that I went in there to get new headphones...and I walked out with a busted iphone.

I just asked them while they were processing my new headphone swap..."oh and by the way..some calls drop is this a carrier or manufacturing problem"

thats when the blue shirted claws took my iPhone away from me:(

This seems like the best place....

Bought an iPhone4 and hated it so traded it on Kijiji for a wifi iPad. Did the physical trade at the Apple Store so we could have them reprint the invoice from the serial number and confirm it wasn't stolen.

The iPad was in decent condition but had scratches on both the glass and the case - but I was fine with it. After a few weeks I noticed a couple dead pixels and went to the Apple store. No problem at all, they send me on my way and tell me I'll get a call in a couple days to pick up a replacement.

So I get a call a couple days later to come in to pick it up, so of course I ditch out of the office and run to the store to do the swap.

On the way to the mall I get a voicemail from "John in Apple Loss Protection" saying they've monitored my case and know that the iPad is jailbroken and that I need to talk to them when I'm in the store.

Of course, I'm reading the message as I'm standing in front of an Apple guy doing the exchange so I just let him finished and haul out of the store, thinking I've got away with it.

Well 2 days later I'm in the office and one of my coworkers sticks his head in the door and asks if I ever got back to John from Apple about the jailbreak. Fucker. Office walls are too thin, I guess.
