Can you install iphone and ipad apps on a mac book?

I have imessages installed on a macbook but can not access the imessage app store. My kid has an ipad and imessages installed.

Whats the difference between the pad and phone and the macbook? Are all apps across the platforms?

Nope. Apple makes it (relatively) easy to make a iPhone AND iPad app by allowing developers to share most of the code base for them. But Mac OS apps use different coding libraries entirely, and are not easily ported.

Apple did make a version of iMessages for the Mac, but it's up to them to include new features such as the iMessages app store.

blows. They release a brand new OSX sierra and they cant make their shinny new message app work on mac. How hard can it be.
