Aphrodite flash Video, "Hoochie," w. Schooly D.

Do you think Aphrodite ever gets tired of that buildup?

The flash video is alright, but it's too cheesy... if they were going for the retro/cheesy look in the hopes of being cool by mocking the retro/cheesy look, they failed. It just comes off kind of corny in my opinion.

As for the song itself, I don't think any real d'n'b fans OR hip-hop fans would like it, or buy it. So that means this song is a marketing device aimed at the uneducated masses. It's not music any more than the Backstreet boys' latest single was music.

Nothing wrong with that, as long as you realize it for what it is.

video sucks ass, imo

the tune has been out on vinyl for a looong time - like months and months...

i guess the reasons you've all mentioned are the reason nobody hears it played out!!

LOL.

True true.

How many times does he think he can remix bad ass with different sounds and samples?

Man, he hurts.

Every producer has a signature sound. I could just as easily pick out a dillinja or ray keith track as I could an Aphrodite track.
Either way, these producers should be respected for what they have done to help build and create the music we all love.

Its one thing to have an opinion and not like a sound, its another to be ungrateful and disrespectfull.

Im sure all of you have at some time loved an Aphrodite track. Maybe just too much pride to admit it.

My 2 cents

I would never say Aphrodite has always been a bad producer, I don't think many people would. He used to produce some of the best tunes around, just look at Bomber, Arsonist, etc... and he's still technically a good producer. His sound is very clean and like you said, he has his own sound.

That doesn't mean I can't criticise him though. In my opinion, he has neglected the creative aspect of producing music in the past few years, and has simply aimed at producing mass-marketable material. I don't think he's producing music because he just loves it and has to express himself creatively anymore. I think he's doing it to make money these days.

Now, whether you argue that that is a necessary evil or not is a whole other debate that I won't get into. It's still my opinion though.

"T", I dug up a few of his tracks back in the day, and I'll bob my head every now and then when one of his tracks comes on an old tape. I totally used to dig up Dub Moods, Bad Ass (ya, I admit it), Bomber, Arsonist...

...but this recycling the same fuckin track over and over again has got to stop. Especially when I've read interviews with him from 3 or 4 years ago complaining about what other D n B producers where doing.

I don't give him any respect as a producer. I like a few of his tracks, that's it. He hasn't made one discenable change to his sound in the last 5 years. Barf.

Like I said in my post, everyone is entitled to an opinion, and I respect both of yours.

Im just against misinformed people (not you guys) putting someone like Aphrodite or Dillinja down. Thats all.

Good discussion though.. thanks guys!

ps. what if I told you that Aphrodite is behind a few of the big tunes from the past year, under a different alias?

Spill the beans dude!

It'd be nice knowing that a decent producer from the back in the day wasn't such a flake.
