our new provincial budget was announced Tuesday, and as of yesturday a pack of 25 cigarettes will cost, at a minimum, $8.50. I imagine at a bar a pack should be pushing $10 now.

i don't even smoke!

a lot of things did go up, but i was wondering how it compared now to prices in the rest of Canada?

vehicle registration $55 went up to almost $70

AB Health up 30% to about $140/ quarter

BEER! I forget how much but it went up.... but I do know that Alberta beer went down.

i'd love to see them make a pack of ciggies $25 bucks each.
i wonder how many people would smoke them if they had to pay a buck a cigarette ?

anywhere between $18 and $21 for 12.

didn't all albertans get a nice kickback from the gov't recently because of the massive profits from the oil companies?

and you don't pay provincial taxes - must be nice.

hmm... I don't know about 'free'

In Alberta, everyone over 18 pays for Alberta Health and it usually runs approx $35 a month. I've never lived anywhere but Alberta as an adult so I don't know how it works in other provinces.

As for the rebates we got, that was a nice touch the last couple years. Everyone got a couple cheques for $150 (as long as you had filed your income tax) that went towards your natural gas bills. In a house with 3 or 4 adults you really ended up paying no gas fees for a few months - although I think most spent theirs on beer.

ps. i'm in Calgary.

just another reason I'm glad I got the hell out of there :p!!
I lived there for almost 2 years...
sorry albertans but I thought Calgary kinda sucked ass. it was so boring... nothing was ever going on (in the city anyway)!?
I would call it "a nice place to visit... "

hence the quotes. we pay for our health care through provincial sales and income taxes. no monthly bill.
