So my fat butt is in need of some exercise, since I now live close to the water and enjoy surfing I have decided to take up paddle boarding.

I've been checking it out online but I wanted to get some opinions of where to purchase a board, oars etc and was curious if those of you that do SUP have any recommendations or spots that are worth checking out.

every time i saw it on the lake i dissed it. Said it looked kinda dumb, and surfing was way more fun. Then i tried it. Whoa. Lots of fun. different kind of challenge. I feel sorta dumb, as any time you can spend some time on the water on a board is good. Im using a windsurf board and a kayak paddle and it works great. Let me know how it goes.

I wonder where that launch point is?

It must have rained the day before, cause the river was pumping nice little rapids there.

Im not sure if i would paddle the Humber down here in Toronto. Has anyone else?

Stand Up Paddleboarding was so 2 years ago. This year it is all about barré classes and not eating gluten.

Awesome so glad to see there are a few on here that are knowledgable, now what kind of things should i look for in a board. given my size and height I guess i'm looking for a 10-11ft board, (5/11 190lbs)

as for brands anything I should consider or stay away from? I'm leaning towards Laird boards just because but they are also double the price, how much is a good price to spend on a board? I might go the rental route and try out a few different boards to get a feel for what i want.

As for spots any rec's? I'm literally at Kipling/Lakeshore. so I got Marie Curtis and Jack Darling nearby both which I know are good spots. Anything else? that humber river vid is right up my alley.

Also safety gear? anything I should be aware of? When I surf its usually me, the board shorts and a rash shirt.

You mean 30 years ago? My aunt, now 78, used to paddleboard on my windsurf board along the coast of Anse d'Arlets (Martinique) when i wasn't using it. There was never much wind on Anse d'Arlets, so she used it more than I.
