Anyone else have trouble obtaining their Rogers email?

I don't normally post to the general section of the Tribe board, but I'm at a loss and I know there's a high concentration of Rogers users here.

Right now, I'd like to throw darts at Rogers 'high speed' employees.

Every once and a while, my account goes 'dead' for 3 days or so and I'm unable to retrieve any of my email during that time. I get an error stating 'username and/or password unrecognised'.

This is rather counter-productive with the concept of maintaining an email account since I use it for business on a daily basis and often receive large attachments as a result (so web-based email isn't an option).

I'm using Eudora 5.1 (I refuse to use Outlook due to the number of viruses coded for it, so that won't be a solution for me).

I never had any serious problems like this with @home when my accounts were on their servers.

What the fuck is up?! Does this happen to anyone else out there? Anyone got any ideas as to how the hell I can prevent this from happening?

I've checked my POP and SMTP server settings and they're all fine according to the www.rogershelp.com website.

I'm not a complete computer idiot, so I'm kind of pissed off that nothing seems to work. I've tried tweaking the POP and SMTP servers to no luck and it still ends up happnening at least 3 times a month!

Suggestions (because my next solution may be changing to Sympatico and firebombing Rogers headquarters)?

They were doing some work on their mail servers last night, so mail was unavailable for a few hours.

i'd like to say that it's growing pains, but somehow i doubt it. i think we should organize a mass 'bill protest'. have everyone record times that the network is down, or email servers are unreachable, etc. and refuse to pay for that time.

it might not do anything, but we might feel rebellious for 5 min.

You mean you haven't been calling them and harrassing them when there have been network problems? What's the matter with you? I've got about 4 months of credit coming my way because of bandwidth issues in my neighbourhood.

in the 16 monhts that i've been with them i've never had a serious problem with rogers. however, the last time i couldn't get online for 2 days it was because something was wrong with my router (or they weren't recongizing it). as soon as i reset that, everything was fine.

however, i don't use them during business hours.

Rogers has implemented some sort of new mail authentication system during the past 48 hours. You should have to set-up your mail client to transmit your userid and passwords for all connections to both the incoming and outgoing mail servers.

Rosey - During business hours is the best time to use rogers. I get blazing speeds during the day. Around 5:30 things start slowing down a bit. Between 7-11:30 is the worst, comparatively.

I can understand the reasons for complaining...
but I've had similar problems with every ISP I've been with.. people complain sooo much about cable and yet if Rogers were to go under, you all would cry soo hard, then proceed to complain about Bell High speed.

I posted this last night around midnight.

I'm still unable to obtain my email.

Is someone willing to explain this new authentication system so that I might be able to figure out what the hell is wrong?

Cheers,
Jay K.

PS - as for calling them up and complaining, I refuse to sit on hold for half an hour. Rogers 'tech' support is a joke because I know more than their support does.

You would help us if you could post what the exact errors you're getting are?

And if it's ... joeblow@rogers.com can't be found / auth'd it's the server is done, simple as that. Or your password is wrong.

Okay, here's the error message I'm getting:
"<Dominant>, Logging into POP server, PASS [2:45:31 AM]
There has been an error transferring your mail. I said: PASS <shhhh! Don't tell anyone.> and then the POP server [loopdokter@rogers.com@pop.bloor.is.net.cable.rogers.com]said: ERR pop operation is not allowed for this user."

I've had the exact same error in the past...
