Anyone been to Calphalon?

Thinking of signing up for a series of culinary courses at Calphalon and was wondering if anyone had any experience with them.

Are the courses worthwhile? Did you learn anything? Worth the money? Any other culinary schools in Toronto I should look at for casual culinary classes before commiting to this one?

When they were on city line did they do the show from the Calphalon kitchen or did the chef's go to the city line studio?

Think I'm going to go for it, even if it doesn't live up to expectations it certainly couldn't be a complete waste of money.

i was thinking of checking one of these out too-- some of them look amazing.
the hands-on ones are waaay more expensive so you could always try one of the demo ones first, you still get to eat at those.

I've taken two of them now.

One of them was a "hands-on" class, where you actually cook and prepare all your own food, with the chef providing instruction.
The other was a demonstration class, where you just sit and watch them prepare the food, and then get to eat it.

They were both excellent. The hands-on class I took was a Thai one, and I couldn't believe how tasty the food was, and that I actually made it. They provide you with all the recipes to take home, as well as suggestions on where to buy your fresh ingredients. They also have the chefs assistant come around while you are cooking to help out with anything you need help on.

You also get the recipes for the demonstration classes as well.

The hands-on classes are a bit pricey ($110 I think), but you do learn a lot. I do think you pay a lot for the Calphalon name. If you are just looking for a good cheap cooking class, I've heard really good things about the ones offered by Loblaws as well.

Let me just end by saying we now eat home made Thai food at least once a week and it is fantastic...

PM me if you want more info.

LOL. Mebbe if you're lucky I'll cook some up before our NFS session! I make a mean green curry chicken.

What's the word for tomorrow? You still busy? Or shall we reschedule to next week?
