Anybody driven across the border lately?

I have to go to Buffalo last minute tonight. I just realized my passport has expired. Anybody know if I'm going to have any problems getting across the border with just my driver's license and my expired passport?

I don't think I'll have a problem.

hmmm can't say for sure --- used to be that would be fine.

i have heard several US bands recently, who played in Toronto, complain about being hugely hassled at the border but that's from the US to Canada.

i know - not much help there.

meh, the last times was a breeze on citizenship alone. I'm heading to NYC for holidays, and my only concern is the holiday border traffic. anyone know what I may expect?

you'll be fine.

It is recommended that you have a passport - my coworker (dual citizen US / Canada) is just telling me.

And they will ask for it.

But if you don't have a passport you can usually show 'proof of citizenship' and a photo id.

(what 'proof of citizenship' is, if it's not a passport, is beyond me. a passport is all i have for that. maybe you should bring mail with your address on it?? lol)

Yeah I'm not DJing, a friend who has a work visa is. I'm just driving him.

I'll bring my birth certificate, expired passport, driver's license and some mail. I should be fine.

proof of citizenship is either a citizenship id or a birth certificate. you should worry about that more on the way back, but the last time I went through, they didn't feel like checking any papers whatsoever...

I'm driving down in a week and got my passport just in case, but I've crossed with just a DL since they've implemented the Department of Deutschland Security so it should be fine.

Matt, I drive over to Michigan on a consistent basic and I am rarely asked for passport, license, etc. and I'm a mid 20's brown dude. I don't think they'll turn you back.
