i was discussing the financial forecasts of the exxon oil company for the next few quarters with an academic. i was honoured that they even wanted my opinion as she is a very respected academic.
N.E wayz i reffered to the company as she. i think it was along the lines of "she should break XX dollars per share if oil prices rise to such and such"
this was met with anger and apparent disgust. i was informed that reeffering to a commpany or any object as a she is objectification of women and that she woldn't have expected such behaviour from me. i was basically flamed. it was only me and her talking so it wasn't exactly embarassing, but more of an eye opener. i don't think that reffering to cmpanies as she is sexist, am i wrong ?
for example when discussing WWII people always refer to soverign states as she. for example i've heard professors sayin that "russia held down much of the allied front, she was responsible for containing the germans etc..."
botom line is it sexist to refer to things as she ?
