Alpha.... it's coming... but what the hell is it supposed to be?

There's a church near my house that has this big sign outside that says "Alpah is coming". I have also seen several other churches that had the same signs... and one that said alpha is here.
since I'm not exactly an avid church goer, I was wondering if anyone could tel lme what the hell alpfa is?

is it jesus.... is he back and on tour?
