well whenever you get a new computer you get a legit OS with it. Technically I own a bunch of legit copies of xp, vista, and macos.
Shit, that is a good point. I have 2 Dell machines with legit XP product keys. Maybe I'll just buy the Home Upgrade.

Haha, even with those legit keys I've been running pirated versions of XP and Vista for god knows how long.

That's the thing with me, I haven't purchased a fully decked out machine that came with everything since my Packard Bell 386SX. Every machine I've owned I've built and then put some kind of o/s on it.

I just figure if they didnt want me to run a pirated copy of their OS they wouldnt let me. They're fully capable of shutting down all pirated copies of vista etc (which connect to the web) ... but they ont. if everyones using it at home it helps it maintain itself as a standard I guess. The real money is off businesses.

That's all very true.

If I want to install Windows 7 on my C:drive, should I just partition off some space to do so, or do I have to reformat the drive, then partition? I wanna try Windows 7, but still have Vista running.

Any idea how much HDD space 7 takes?

Ugh, all these jumplists, recently accessed folders, etc. make it harder to remove any reference to my ginormous porn stash.

lol i think theres a one-spot-to-rule-them-all way to disable that somewhere. what have you got to hide though?

I noticed something nifty the other day. while playing an mp3 in media player you can physically move that file to another directory and it continues playing. Meaning those file locks work differently.

assuming it works like this across the board for any file that is already open in some application. I assume if you resaved that file, where would it save. that i haven't tried yet.

wow thats actually quite a nice little touch. think maybe it puts the whole file to buffer to free up the hard drive one?

2GB or Ram in my ION/Atom box and it runs nicely.
The code should hit MSDN tonight, so expect more releases of the REAL RTM tomorrow I would say

Has anyone else installed the 7600 RTM that is out there now? I downloaded a copy that looks somewhat legit last night (64 bit Ultimate) and thinking about upgrading on the weekend. Wanted to see if anyone was able to successfully upgrade without having to do a clean install.

you can upgrade but clean install is recommended. make sure your copy is legit though, lots of botnet copies floating around. I would wait a few days or a week or however long nessecary for someone to check this out and flag it as 'trusted'

There's no known "clean" copy of 7600 RTM yet. Whatever you downloaded is either not final or has been diddled by dubious sources. Hold tight until you see a proper release from one of the major groups like ZWT/WZT or some such.

Raijo: Just buy a 2GB kit. Don't buy a single DIMM and mix, you might end up with timing issues and instability.

the msi wind has only one free slot and one gig hard-installed on the mobo which supports a max of 2 gigs, so its either install a 1 gig stick or a 2 gig (and disable the onboard gig)

That's what I figured but thought I'd give it a shot... will wait until you guys give the heads up. My copy of RC1 was released by IND so will hold tight until there is something similar for the 7600 RTM.

So is the torrent legit?

Also, Vista 64-bit scared me off, but you folks experience any issues with 64-bit Win7?

Sorry, yes it's 64-bit in general that scared me off. The small programs here and there that just weren't compatible.

I'll likely stick with 32-bit Win 7, anyways.
