a question about tea....

So I've heard many times that coffee is not very good for you and that tea can contain more caffeine.
I REALLY enjoy drinking tea and I will sometimes have up to 5 or 6 cups of tea a day.
Is it as bad as drinking coffee?
Does keeping the tea-bag in the tea while you drink it make it good? bad? or does it not make a difference?

I've just heard different things on the subject of tea and I would like to know if anyone here knows the REAL deal.

natalie :D <---- loves drinking tea!

Cup of tea has about 60mg of caffeine.

Cup of coffee about 120mg.

Tea is GOOD for you... cancer fighting shit in it, especially green tea.

I think tea is bad depending on how much sugar and crap you put in it.
Herbal teas, like green tea, are definately good for you though.

I know tea is good for me, and coffee is just ASS.

But is there a limit to the amount of tea I should be drinking?

oh, and I don't put any sugar in my tea, just milk!

I'm a tea girl too.

the caffine in tea depends entirely on how long you keep the tea bag in for.
On average it contains less caffine then coffee...
I took drugs and behavior at uni and they said one was no worse then the other (black standard tea that is).

as far as leaving the tea bag in there while you drink it... that's just gross so I'm going to say that its bad for you :p

"The lastest science shows tea is full of healthy substances, including ones known as antioxidants, that may help prevent everything from heart disease to strokes to cancer.

"The antioxidant properties of one cup of tea are greater than one glass of fruit juice or an equivalent portion of fruits and vegetables," said Catherine Rice-Evans of Kings College in London.

For the first time, there is also direct evidence tea can protect against cancer in humans.

A Chinese study of 59 people at risk for mouth cancer found those who were given tea for six months were slower to actually develop the disease than those who didn't drink it.

"We believe this is quite promising, not only because oral cancer is an important human cancer, but it seems all cancers have some similar characteristics," said Dr. Junshi Chen of the Chinese Academy of Preventative Medicine in Beijing. "

I just leave it in when I'm getting tea 'on the go' - at the Second Cup. I just put milk and and lid on it and hop on the subway!
But at home I always take the bag out.

Tea made with tea leaves is good. Green is better, but black is good.

Herbal teas that don't contain tea leaves... depends on the herb ;)

And don't ask me about decaffeinated stuff... if there's no drug in it, I don't know ;)

hmm. I wonder if I can get green tea at the second cup? is there such thing as 'real green tea' and then the one that people will sell because it's 'trendy' or what not?

so many questions about tea! must go get another one.......

interesting tea fact (i think so at any rate)

all teas: orange pekoe, english breakfast, green tea...

COME FROM THE EXACT SAME PLANT SOURCE. the myriad differences are produced through different harvesting techniques and processing.

You mean there is ONE PLANT (must be one huge plant) that supplies all the tea everywhere?

OH... MY... GOD...

I am a tea girl too, i would much rather drink tea than coffee, as for how many a day you should limit yourself to, i have no idea, i usually drink between 3-4 cups a day, i say enjoy as much tea as you want - you only live life once:) My favorite tea is Orange Pekoe, i don't think i have tried green tea, but i have raspberry leaf tea and Cinnamon Apple tea which are not really that great tasting but if i run out of orange pekoe, i'll drink them.

ang:)

must resist further temtation to procrastinate......

i *love* green tea. especially the japanese kind that has the l'il float-y things in it.

actually there are only three "real" types of tea; black, green and oolong. all contain caffiene. the caffiene free herbal variaties are simply herbs, such as cammomile...and if they don't contain the three types of tea previously mentioned then they're just a "herbal medley".

the best way to make tea is to bring a pot of cold water to a slow boil, rinse out the tea pot with a little bit of clean, boiling water prior to preparing the tea. let it steep for 3-5 minutes, allowing the perfect infusion of flavour and caffiene. take out the teabag & enjoy. :)

I've recently kicked my caffeine habit, more or less. I used to have coffee all day: one before I left the house, one on the way to the office, one POT through the course of the morning.

Now I am down to the one on the way to work, and decaf all morning. Basically all of the gut rot with less caffeine, but it's a start.

Anyway, decaf Earl Grey kicks ass! Great late at night.

hmmm...i think my wording is correct. maybe not precise enough.

but fine. all varieties of tea come from one species of plant.

I'm gonna be the first guy to come here and proclaim his love for tea....I, like doodlebug and Cheeka, drink tea on a regular basis, and feel that it leaves a much better feeling than coffee does, and I've also heard many times that tea has more caffiene, isn't good for you, blah blah blah.

long live tea:)

what's the point?

LOL Word :)

I can't stad coffee, even Coffee Crisp is nasty to me. People used to tell me I would one day be like the tea-man who bleeds tea in Kids in the Hall :( Usually it's 3 extra large Second cup cups a day with Milk and sugar.

Anyways, I'm English I can't help it. Black Darjeeling, English Breakfast, or Orange Pekoe, but not Earl Grey.
