A one way ticket to Mars

I was thinking of applying for this Mars Expedition thing, but then I remembered why I don't go on boat cruises anymore - you get stuck in a small space with a pile of people you don't want to hang out with, ever, and there's no way off.

Also, there is no air on Mars, and the only metal to detect would be those Mars rovers so it would be kinda boring.

Ack!

After this Boston Marathon Bombing I'd like to send a good chunk of the people on my Facebook on a one way ticket to Mars.

The immense amount of planning involved in running a mission to mars is daunting ... NASA has already been working on it for some time. Part of the ISS's mission is to do many of the thousands of experiments needed.

The likeliest route is likely a one-way trip by default, at least for now - fuel considerations are top of mind here but also, the chances of something tragically going wrong are so high... But it's part of the learning - there are somethings we will never be able to determine without actually pointing a ship toward mars and firing it off.

And that’s just the technical side of things. There’s a human side to take into consideration, too. Mars One has opened its astronaut application to everyone. If you’re between 20 and 40 years old and healthy, you’re qualified to fly on Mars One. Education and background doesn’t matter. Instead, a sense of humour and the ability to work well with others are key characteristics Mars One is looking for in astronaut hopefuls.
This has to be a joke. Sending people up who aren't specialists in medicine, biology, engineering? (Just to name a couple of things needed at the top of my head).Wtf? All they need is a good sense of humour? Yeah, that'll be a hoot if there's a malfunction or ppl get sick (or injured) :O

I would do it I think if the opportunity arose.

It would be dangerous and not exactly a 5* hotel, but when it boils down to it, it's a pretty important step for us.
