New Year's wouldn't be the same without Tribe's year in review thread. I am out of town (typing on my phone), so will add my post when I get in front of a computer.

Merry New Year, Tribe!

Had a great year.

Started off the year by going to Orlando with the Family and close friends of ours/their kids of the same age. Was blown away with how good Universal studios was. If you're an amusement park junkie like I am, this place is a bucket list park to go to. Especially if you're a Harry Potter or Marvel Superheroes fan. The rides there are unlike anything else. Already trying to figure out when I can go back.

Started a new job in March. Much less stress than my last place and great new people to work with.

Summer went by way too quickly (like it always does). Didn't do anything big but had some fun outings here and there.

Fall was pretty uneventful but did a fun road trip to Buffalo with a great group of guys and had a blast. Had some drama to deal with with my mom but that's seemed to die down now.

Christmas was good with the family and taking a couple of weeks off just relaxing to round out the year.

Here's hoping for a good 2015.

My highlight of 2014 was a two week trip to Portugal. Got to experience many different parts of the country.

Aside from that, everything else was par for the course.

NYE plans crapped out last minute and now have little idea what to do. Current plans are to check in at The Grand for 3pm (lol at overnight stays at a hotel a few blocks from where one lives), go for a swim, go out for dinner and a couple drinks, then retire to the rooftop hot tub. I foresee a 12:30am bedtime.

This was probably my best year ever; not financially, but rather the best in a deep earthy spiritual way.

With my treasure hunting hobby, I started off the year with a huge find in South Africa - my first day out when I arrived - a platinum ring with a giant triangular diamond in it which I sold there to a friend of a friend who gave it to his wife for her 70th birthday. I spent 3 months in South Africa in the waves hunting for more and found some pretty impressive smaller diamond rings.

My best find in Canada this year has to be the beautiful 1884 wedding band belonging to Annie Hedge, one of Toronto's early residents.

There were moments when I was in the ocean in the blazing sun, getting slapped by big waves, and focusing on the tones coming through my headphones that I realized how deeply I have been connected to the water all my life. I nearly drowned in the ocean at the age of 4 and that memory is still vivid. It took me until my teens to even want to learn how to swim because of that experience. Today, being in the water is my happy place.

My house got robbed down there while I was out in the ocean, and the new expensive notebook I had spent six months researching and agonizing over before buying was stolen. I had owned it about 30 days. It occurred to me that I hated it anyway and was much happier with older (and inexpensive) business type laptops with real keyboards that I could use for content creation, instead of a bloated fancy new thing with all the bells and whistles with features that I would never use.

Last year's resolution was to get my full G license, which for one reason or another, I never managed to complete in previous years before my license expired, which meant I had to start anew at the bottom of the G scale again and again. I scheduled the test up in the Bancroft area where I spent a lot of time in the summer this year in a rented car exploring beaches and swimming holes and getting practice driving in Canada.

I failed one test because I was too much in my head, overly prepared, and nervous as hell. I took it again in Bancroft with the same tester a few weeks later in a more relaxed state and nailed it, but not only that - it was the early morning in the peak of Fall leaf season and it was like driving through an oil painting of yellows, reds, greens, golds. I have never seen Fall beauty like this before. The Bancroft area is magical to begin with, but in the fall it is truly something to see. Even the drive tester, who lives in the area, was blown away by the beauty of it. The colors with little wisps of morning mists in the trees... Wow. Something I will remember for ever.

I spent a lot of time up at The Watcher & Malia's forest in the Summer. In fact I had my tent set up permanently in a clearing by the forest from the spring until the fall. What a magical place it is up there! I connected in a very deep way with the land, with the two of them, and also with the others who came up to the Magickal Forest for a couple of their events, and it was excellent.

I explored every single swimming beach near the Magickal Forest with my metal detector over a ten day period in the late summer, driving the back roads, hunting in pools under waterfalls, eating fresh baked goodies from small local coffee shops. One day, I was about a kilometer out in Papineu Lake, and still only in shoulder deep water, and I intuited some movement near my feet. I looked down and saw an enormous trout or muskie - perhaps as long as my entire arm, swim lazily away in the crystal clear water.

I continued to grow the online ad agency I started last year, and I currently am serving over a million ads a day into various forums around the world. I am loving working with other forum owners. This year I split the TRIBE domains into their own distinct sites, in preparation for next year's board software upgrade and change.

After experiencing huge amount of neck pain since last year, I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in 3 of my neck vertebrae. Already a Pilates guy for many years, I've spent the year doing intense Pilates exercises to try and minimize the pain and increase the mobility in my neck with the top Pilates instructors in the city at Mindful Movement Center. It is working, and I am reconnecting with my body in new ways.

I started dating again and it has been good.

2014 was just freaking great.

Spent time in Costa Rica, Brazil just amazing vacations and places, and Florida for the WONDERFUL WIZARDING WORLD OF HARRY POTTER ( plus visiting with friends and family )

Saw two very close sets of friends get married.

Spent lots of time in nature, cycled more, yoga'd more. Giving myself more challenges that alter my daily routines.

My hair is now long enough to put up in a nice little man bun.

accepted that after driving a lot of other cars this year and researching new cars vs my car, that i love my 2007 Passat, its got lots of balls left, gas is now a reasonable price for gold, have embraced taking care of it till its old enough to give to a relative. Detachment from consumerism !

Augmenting living space to be more habitable, acquired 2nd feline, and growing more plants at work and home than ever.

Best year with my company evar !

Pretty stoked for 2015, want to do more travelling, get better at more things ! its all about experiences and learning.

:) Tux the Cat is the best cat in the world! You made my 2014 great.

2014, I'm knee deep in the Toddler Years trenches. Some days I'm outnumbered by zerberts, no, no, nos and screaming - but, in the words of Pete The Cat: It's all good.

2015, I'm looking forward to a diaperless house, daycare, JK and going back to work in Q4 (fingers crossed).

^^^ This and a few other things:

Started volunteering a fair bit at my kids' school as much as work would permit. While I've always respected teachers, being in the classroom has given me a lot of perspective on how hard they work, how patient they are(especially if they have to teach my children!) and how exhausting it can be. I've met some really awesome parents who have become good friends which definitely makes up for the some of the asshats I met the previous years. I even joined the Student Advisory Council and got involved in a multi-year fundraising effort for the school. If you told me years ago I would join any of these groups, I would have laughed my head off at you.

Had an annoying health issue through most of the year which thankfully has mostly cleared up. I've also have a new found respect for doctors and staff.

A talk with my manager and having to prove myself for a year at work has finally landed me a promotion in the new year with a decent raise.

All in all, a good year. I hope next year will be as smooth as the last one.

Definitely more productive than the last two years, which seemed to be a regression.

Two steps back, three forward sometimes. Happy to be reuinited after a 3 year absence among my old friends at work, and developing new applications on the systems i'm most familiar with...

Apart from that, we lost a friend in Timmy (Taro), and we must to remind ourselves life is worth living, no matter how bad things may seem sometimes.

Ah Silver1 and Jellibeen, I don't get to see you as often as I would like. Hopefully that will improve in 2015!

You guys are all making me feel jealous. My 2014 was quite terrible.

I watched "back to the future" part two the other day, it was 30 years forward of 1985, ie., 2015. Where are our flying cars, hover boards, and Mr. Fusion??

Kindest regards everyone.

Happy New Year everyone!

2014 was fairly uneventful for me, but I did get my basement studio back into working order after a long drought, and even performed a hardware live PA for the first time in 13 years. So that was fun. Hopefully 2015 brings a few more pieces of gear into my orbit.

Other than that I'm enjoying watching my kids grow up.

Oh, and I just realized I missed marking the 15th anniversary of registering my username on Tribe back on December 31, 1999. Happy Tribe-a-versary to me!

2014 was a challenge, one of introspection, learning, and development.

Once more into the breach! Onwards and upwards, and one love!

How did you find out the history behind the wedding band?

for me as well, 2014 will turn out to be one of those working years, with job, tax and relationship develops both positive and negative and you use it to learn.

Wooooooooooooooooooooooo!

2014 was awesome for me on all levels.

  • Bought a nice new house in our dream area
  • Bought a brand new 3 cylinder ECO BOOST Fiesta
  • Landed a sweet Dev/QA position (best job yet) for the Gov't
  • Currently hold my lowest handicap I've ever had (9.0)
  • I'm as healthy as can be
  • And best of all, a big surprise for 2015!

Glad everyone else had a great 2014 considering the ups and downs that might have been experienced along the way. Hope everyone has a great 2015!

2014 in a nutshell was ok. Not great but not bad. For me it fell in the shadow of 2013 which was my first amazing year in a long time.

I am hoping a lot of dust settles in 2015 and I can actually enjoy it and not be snowed under with work all the time and hoping a lot of emotions settle down about some other things.

My partner and I are heading to Mexico in March, so really looking forward to that. Nothing else really planned yet, but will try to make this year one where I get back into good shape again, try some new things (going axe throwing on Saturday!) and focus on doing healthy things that make me happy.

Hope everyone has a safe and happy 2015!

- sold my NT650 hawk, bought a 1998 Triumph Daytona, crashed it and walked away. Might skip riding for the year in 2015.
- Went to Norway for a family wedding, Morocco, Madrid.
- Got my lead cert for climbing, and also maxed out at 5.11d's, but stopped for now.
- I'm no longer injured and healthy, though I do have some more aggressive goals for 2015!

I think 2015 will be fun and interesting, though I think 2016 will end up being crazier. Definitely need to bring it up a notch.

2014 was a stinking pile of poo in the scheme of things.

Way more downs(and pretty major ones) than ups.

Glad it's over. 2015 is going to be better, without a doubt.

2014 was pretty good. I still haven't figured out the meaning of life, but I'm grateful to be alive.

I decided to do more stuff with more people. Basically trying to not turn down invites and not saying no.

So January and February were a bit of blur.
I did random things like go to the Tea show, even though I don't drink tea. Just cause someone asked. I found myself in random seminars just cause someone asked.

Went to a 4 charity fundraisers. One of them by myself. Had fun at all of them.

Helped out with a friend's aspirations to get into federal politics.

Went ice climbing. Which was awesome and hope to do it again this year.

I played 10 rounds of golf in the summer. The most ever. Hope to play as many rounds this summer.

I went on a road trip to Belize but only made it as far as Oaxaca Mexico. Totally epic and will do the drive again, if not next year, the year after that.

Started doing some self directed investing.

For 2015 my goals are...

get some more deep house in my life. i didn't go to as many deep house parties as i would have liked last year.

get my motorcycle license

get a nice camera. i went all year without a camera.

start doing sit ups. my gut is becoming pronounced.

spend more time with my niece and nephew

invite friends and family over for dinner.

be friendlier to strangers.

2014 was definitely a transition year for me.

  • I remained focused on my health and well being (spiritual, mental and physical) and believe I experienced a lot of growth in all three areas.
  • I had a good year at work and expanded my areas of technical expertise (I'm a UNIX consultant).
  • I finally got legally divorced after having not been with my Ex for many years.
  • I spent a lot of quality time with my kids and found them to be fascinating people.
  • I planned a small wedding for 2015 with my partner Sara.
  • I attended zero techno or scene related events, although I did get up to the Harvest Site to help out for a few days in the summer with my kids.
  • I read a lot, exercised and slept a lot and remained happy with who I am and where I'm headed.
  • And I hung out with the best dog in the universe, and we went on daily adventures in the woods and beaches of Toronto and surrounding areas :D

2014 has been a roller coaster of a ride for me with my new business in place and two kids on the go has made my life super busy.

I have cooked the most amount of briskets, pork butts, ribs, Chicken and wings in my whole entire life. However all the hard work is paying off because in the first year of business I have made some major accomplishments with my new carrier and the business is growing each day. My one major improvement I will be making for my business is hiring a sales rep to acquire me more corporate gigs for catering.

My lovely partner has been doing her part as well. Taking care of a 1 and 3 year old is a task on it's own and I applaud her for raising such awesome children when I'm not home.

My one improvement for myself is to get back into the gym for 2015. I pretty much work 10-13hr days which leaves no time for me to work out. Once I tackle a few items on my list I will be hiring a day time front end so I can start taking care of my overall health a little more.
