2012: the year electronic music broke

Disclosure are great in my opinion. The crowd rushed the coat check because they had been waiting in line for quite some time due to it being understaffed. Stealing coats isn't cool, but that happens at any coat check. Hell, I had my coat stolen from my when it was hanging by my side in the DJ booth!

So it's not just 'this generation'. That's a load of hooey.

We used to stash our coats alongside the bass bins. In my whole life I've never experienced that.

But most well run events have their coats behind a booth. Like there's no way in.

I'll still blame stupid kids for rushing the booth.

There was a guy who posted who worked the coat check, and security said... just stand behind us, for your safety. Let them at it. Like shopping at Winners.

James, did you go out once when you were 18 and are stuck in that halcyon moment?

Shit always happened regardless of the time and place.

This.

Based on some other stuff I've seen James post, I wouldn't say 'having a clue' falls into his vocabulary.

Through all my years of going out, be it mainstream bar, seedy after hours dive, disco, etc, etc, I. Had far more good times than bad.

But maybe it was just me but I was never that naive to think that everyone was there for a good time.

haha yeah i remember that same thing happening in the middle of winter at some NYE rave in early 90s.. think it was dose/syrous
coat check girl got overwhelmed and just said fuck it and left. all of the coats were in a giant pile on the floor at the end. impossible to find your coat, people just ended up grabbing any coat they could find because it was dead of winter and then bounced

Well I'm not going against embrace by any means, but two weeks in a row.

They apparently oversold this concert, and folks who paid top dollar had a hard time getting in. They fine printed the tickets to say subject to capacity apparently. Which means, it doesn't matter how much you paid. Get there early.

The folks from the seating area were jumping down to the "rave area" Then, real folks who paid money couldn't get in.

Zedd's Toronto Tour Stop Mishandled by Promoter, Security Issues | Your EDM

To each their own, but it's like electro pop concert. Folks who paid floor had to sit in the seats.

If they can't handle throwing large events, they should get some mentorship.

SFX Entertainment filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy on Monday, February 1st.

The decision, which was first considered back in January, will see $300 million in debt wiped from SFX's accounts as the company goes private. A new CEO will be brought in to replace Robert F.X. Sillerman, the company's founder, CEO and chairman. The deal, described by The Wall Street Journal as a debt-for-equity swap with bondholders, has been structured to allow SFX to continue trading as normal.

Upon filing for bankruptcy, SFX says it aims to "complete its restructuring and exit chapter 11 within six months." SFX's assets include Beatport, React Presents, Made Event and i-Motion. The move comes after several failed attempts by Sillerman to take the company private. The most recent effort, at $3.25 a share, was scrapped in November 2015

SFX to sell off Beatport

The troubled EDM holdings company will put the digital download service up for auction in May.

Following its bankruptcy filing earlier this month, SFX has announced plans to unload digital download giant Beatport.

SFX acquired the Denver, CO-based company in 2013 for $50 million and launched a streaming component in 2014 aimed at the electronic music fan rather than the site's traditional users, DJs. Beatport posted $5.5 million in losses in 2015. Following the February declaration of bankruptcy and the removal of CEO and founder Robert F.X. Sillerman, SFX's lawyers have filed a motion to sell off the company in federal bankruptcy court.

As Billboard reports, the court filing says: "SFX talked with 24 parties that expressed interest, with 18 signing non-disclosure agreements and performing due diligence."

Beatport provided RA with the following official statement leading up to the auction:

We are both flattered and encouraged by the number of companies that have already expressed an interest in acquiring Beatport. For over twelve years, Beatport has served as the global source for electronic music worldwide. This legacy, and the complete music experience we have built around it, will continue to guide our vision. As always, our priority remains our customers and partners. We are excited for the future.

Bids for the web-based service will be taken up until April 28th. At that point the highest bid will be used as the starting point for the auction. Competing bids will need to come in increments of $250,000. The auction will occur on May 3rd, 2016, at the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. SFX is also looking to sell off another 2013 acquisition, Fame House, a marketing company counting Josh Wink, Pretty Lights and DJ Shadow as early clients.

That article doesn't say they're not paying out labels during this process. Its sounds like it would be difficult to do so in their current situation but doesn't they they actually aren't.

Beatport had a press release shortly after FX filling and they said they will be carrying out business as usual.

i don't have links but ask anyone you know who owns a label...the letters have been filtering out since last week. they basically say the parent company is in chap 11 and that no legal action can be taken against them by any creditors. IANAL but i would imagine this is pre-emptive for if/when they eventually can't make payments?
