2005-2006 Toronto Maple Leafs

According to TSN

Mats Sundin of the Toronto Maple Leafs will be out indefinitely after he suffered a fractured orbital bone early in the first period of the Leafs' 3-2 shootout loss to the Ottawa Senators Wednesday night.

Sundin suffered the injury when Bryan Smolinski of the Senators tried to shoot a puck into the Leafs zone and it caught the Leafs foward near the eye.

Maple Leafs general manager John Ferguson says Sundin is still getting checked out, and that surgery remains a possibility.

That's not all on the injury front for the Leafs, though. Right winger Jeff O'Neill missed practice Thursday with a right shoulder injury, suffered when he went flying over Sens goalie Dominik Hasek into the net late in the game.

They played good, but not great. I didn't really jump out of my seat with excitement while watching the game.
I still think O'Neil is the only great aquisition they have and hopefully Lindross (and everybody else) will stay non-injured.

Having said that, the shootout sucks.

Domi didn't play much I thought - the one shift I did remember him playing, he made a beautiful backhanded drop to someone (can't remember who) which created a pretty good chance for the leaf to score...

Way to go Eric

Sad to see that Mats will be lost for the next while. At the same time due to his injury we got to see how dominatiing Eric Lindros can be. When Mats left the game midway thru the 1st period, Pat Quinn decided to double shift Eric Lindros and Jason Allison between Antropov and Poni. Finally in the 3rd period we got to witness Lindros strenght and power. There was one shift in the 3rd period where he was a dominant force out there. He crushed Mike Fisher and Chris Neil and even got Neil to take a retaliatory penalty. And he scored the go-ahead goal minutes after. Jason Allison is so strong with the puck, somehow the puck just glues onto his stick. He is so strong and extremely difficult to handle down low. Give these guys another few games or so and the whole town will be glimmering with their talents and leadership abilities.

Despite the final score i think the Leafs did a fairly good job on the ice last night. As disturbing as it is, they are a team considered to be the underdog facing a team that is pegged to win the cup. Without a question the first period belonged to the leafs. I had no problem with domi taking that unsportsmanlike penalty as he was backing up/defending his captain. They had great control on the powerplay, altough they slipped into their "don't shoot on the powerplay" mode during the third. o'neill was playing with some real grit. i was hoping for a bit more from steen and upset to see that wellwood did not dress. belfour was looking good and yes, i'm pretty sure that the puck was over the line when he made that glove stop, but that doesn't really matter in the end.

and of course, way to go mc cabe for opening up the scoring. things have been a bit quiet as far as his name goes so good to see him net one. lindros' goal was sweet. he was playing with some real dedication there, which made it suck more to have those stinkin shit bags score with only 40 seconds or so left.

the shootout? well, this is a part of the new nhl. we have to take it as it is.

I have not put a name on my jersey because there aren't any players I like enough to warrant it.

Perhaps this will be the year that (gasp) I have to stich Lindros on it?

i thought the game was good...they totally outplayed them until alfredson was put on spezza and heatly's line...love the two line pass...at one point it was back and forth for like 5 mins...so good...once the teams get used to it, it will def open up the scoring a lot more. allison is very good...like o'neil and lindros seemed to get his game back in the 3rd...once the team gels a bit more and if belfour stays healthy im sure they r gonna kick major ass

I wonder if that big tough swede will renounce is big tough ways and put a visor on?

The NHL never mandated the use of helmets, how they do. It's about time the start to require the use of visors, like the ECHL has done. It's goddamned negligence that they don't. Yzerman in the last playoffs and now Sundin. Bryan Berard, how many people have to suffer serious eye injuries before they smarten up?

From what I hear, a ruling is being set that will require all rookies to wear visors, kinda like how they grandfathered the helmet rule a la Craig Mac Tavish.
