well what can i say...

one of the top five sets i've ever heard. these guys were unbelievably deep. their dark funk would come back stronger with each track.

i definitely think they should come back to toronto this year.

WOW. This was my first time at System and I love that place. It reminds me of the womb, not that I actually remember that stage of life but you know what I mean; red, warm, murky, comforting beats. I'm pretty sure I saw Subsonic Chronic, Moez, Janiecakes, and maybe MoFo there, I didn't say hi cause I wasn't sure, I had to consult the pic thread. I was the oriental guy in the blue t-shirt absolutely feelin the music. Great crowd, never seen such a high ratio of people totally into it. And what an awesome set, I couldn't stop moving at all! They played a good range of progressive from dark funky housey stuff to well... regular prog. Alright those are some really shitty adjectives but I'm tired. Later peeps.

yet another wicked friday night at System.

Scaife, with the exception of a couple of questionable mixes, played one of the best sets I've seen from him yet.

Saeed and Palash both played great sets as well, and kept me moving non-stop.

I hope they come back soon.

What a wicked set...i was totally feeling the moody vibes...

It was great to see all the usual crowd again...knowing half the people in the room certainly adds to the overall experience.

Scaife opened up well too.

peace

After last night, I've found a new way to spell JOY - 2 words beginning with S and P.

Friday was such a toss-up, I could not make a decision on whether to go to Milk (Dimitri fr. Paris), Garage (Joe Claussell) or Breathe for Saeed & Palash. Eventually I chose the cheapest option and decided to check out System (yuck- not my favourite place), not expecting much.

Get inside in less than 5 min.(wow thngs have improved) and I was the only person in the paid line up. Once inside I see the usual atmosphere and crowd as always (things haven't improved). Find some familiar/ friendly faces and spend some time chatting while Mark Scaife is throwing down on the decks. His set wasn't bad, a few tunes had me tearing it up on the dance floor but for the most part I wasn't feeling it, not the music I came to hear.

By 1am I was getting bored and impatient for the headliners, wishing I went to Garage416 instead. Saeed and Palash went on at 2am, the funk was let loose and a smile went on my face. Further on into the night and I was losing myself to the music - as Lynn (board name: Ilia) said "I could close my eyes and feel like I was hearing Danny Tenaglia". So true! When they dropped that Satoshi Tomeii track, I was zoned off to my happy place for a second time in same evening (Scaife played it earlier) and again when they let "Voices" seep into my soul.

Damn, what treat that was, funky, tribal, progressive ... beautiful house! So very close to a Danny T. set, I couldn't have been more happy. Too bad that by 4:30 I knew I couldn't stay any longer and had to leave - why oh why did I have to work this morning? Well, I left with a smile on my face though, amazing for me at System, hope that someone brings them back real soon.

I need to rant:
Nice to see they've done some decorating to make System look better. Please do something about that hole in the back, though- it needs more than lights and fabric to make me want to spend any time there.
Air Conditioning - is this a new concept or are they to cheap to turn it on, the night is called BREATHE right?
Hire some pleasant bar staff & security, please.

Good to see everyone from the board: faces familiar, new and missing.

^^ if you mean the bartender at the back room, yes she is nice and I wasn't refering to her.

The shits out front: as usual I just love waiting while you chat with friends, look at me and keep talking. Toss a water bottle and change at me with disgust, like you did a special favour and cleaned my toilet.

Since there isn't anyone named Eva working at System, I'll tell Ima you said so. And I agree with you 100% - Ima is the sweetest bartender in To. =)

As for last night, I had a fantastic time. Tho was hoping the main room sets would be more techno and less house so I spent most of the night in the back room sweating my brains out. They really do need to do something about the air back there.

Agreed. We were all totally blown away. This was his best by far. Whatever was done to make this happen should always be done in the future. A really enjoyable set. I didn't stop dancing.

When it came time for Saeed and Palash I was practically dead. I enjoyed their set though, but was so into Scaife that the slower change of pace just lost me. However, it got really strong and dark. Very techno near the end. Just what I wanted to hear and needed to dance to.

SHE LIED TO ME??!!

Well....i guess it could be a combination of me being really drunk and the music being really loud but i could have swore that she said her name was Eva.....shes always at the bar near the front to the left of the DJ booth....

Had a fun time as always.. Nice to see the folks I know, and the folks I've just met recently.

On that note, Tam I'm so sorry I forgot your name. You'd think I'd remember it seeing that it's only one letter away from mine!! Shannon, nice to meet you, even though it was brief. Pete and Johane, and James of course, always a pleasure.

Nesta, Rick and crew.. you guys rock. Like Jay says, hopefully we'll stay longer next time.

Wicked time once again at Breathe. Breathe is my Cheers! I go there, and I feel at home, I have friends who know my name, and they seem glad that I came. Mark Scaife played a nice opener, but Saeed and Palash rocked it! With each track they dropped, they just seemed to build and build! Their mixes were tight, and the tracks melted together. System is great, the bar staff is great, especially the dark haired girl and blonde boy to the right of the DJ booth. So pleasant! My only complaint is the dried ice. Get rid of it! Nobody enjoys dry ice being blasted in their face all night, really! It was great to see so many familiar faces that I hadn't seen in a while. It was a night when the true heads came out. The place was never uncomfortably rammed, but the vibe was wicked! Did anybody else notice the crackdown by the bouncers? Oh well...

Just a friednly reminder: Your behovior usually determines the response of others. You can't expect any more than what you put out there, and you went into the night with a bad attitude. I thought it was a wicked time. Eva (or whatever her name is
biggrin.gif
) works out in the front, and treats even the biggest assholes with a degree of respect. The black guy is fun when not dealing with bullshit. The girl in the VIP is classy and exotic. The various waitresses do an excellent job of maintaining their composure while doing one of the hardest and worst paying jobs on the planet. Your opinion is based on the security (who only search you at the door and bust you for smoking pot so the cops can't come in and shut down the music) and one snotty little princess (who has no excuse; she's just a snotty little princess), and it's not fair to apply it to the whole place. This negativity you got going really should be checked with your coat if you want to be treated in a "pleasant" manner. Oh, and by the way, Mychol Holtzman won an award for his design of the back room. Obviously someone thought the lights and material had a great effect.

a little off topic but does anyone know the one song they played near the end of their set it's very similar to boogie monster by avh in terms of vocals, something like why must i hear all the things people say in a very errie deep voice with a heavy bassline...

anyone know what i'm talking about cause i need a track id.
