It's definitely worth seeing on the big screen. The sound and score are superb (Johann Johansson). I also enjoyed the camerawork of Bradford Young (that rotating helicopter scene was a jaw dropper). I commented to my friend on the way out that I loved the first 15-20 minutes. The space that...

Both Arrival and Moonlight will be in my top 3 for the year. Great films. The emotional core of Arrival was just brilliant. It had me entranced from the first seconds and didn't let up. I'm dying to see it again. I also enjoyed Youth and Divines. If you want something low key and fun, check out...

Outsiders from modern society - uncontacted tribes

Contact comes at risk of the tribes contracting a substantial list of our illnesses. I know the Indian government have restricted any contact with the North Sentinel tribe for these reasons. I also don't buy into the idea that we need to democratize or 'civilize' these groups. They're fit to run...

    Vacation Rec for a week?

Yeah, Sedona has some great hiking spots. Mesas and vortexes with wide open vistas. It has this weird hippie vibe to it too. I'd recommend the drive out towards Flagstaff. It's beautiful (Flagstaff not so much). If you're renting a car, head to the Chiricahua Mountains down near the border...

Phoenix Christian Petzold's next film after the excellent 'Barbara' follows a disfigured holocaust survivor who sets out to prove if her husband betrayed her to the Nazis. Nina Hoss is astounding, working through her physical alteration and stages of grief. The ending is worth the investment. I...

It's also showing at Varsity. I'm keen to revisit it. I caught it late at night right after another film, so flagged a bit during it. The crowd lapped it up. I still need to see Stoker. Thanks for the reminder :)

It's such a glorious looking film. You could pause any point and just marvel at the decor, colour, tone, etc. Park's the real deal. I saw him open the film at TIFF and he just fucked with the crowd via a translator. The film can feel long but it's worth the journey.

    Black Lives Matter vs PRIDE

Yeah, Coulter is definitely pure evil. She possesses no redeeming qualities. She could die right now and our collective species would be better off. I just can't get my head around Milo being acutely gay and yet, antagonistic to the gay community. Like their concerns aren't based on genuine...

    Black Lives Matter vs PRIDE

Funny timing indeed. I was listening to Sam Harris yesterday on his podcast. He was asked a question about Milo and his views. He determined that he's not entirely sure if Milo is just trolling the fuck out of everyone and really believes the crap that he peddles. I get that the 'regressive...
