In two years it will be leaked all over the place. No one would pay for it. I bet they settle and settle quick.

Fox seeking injunction to block release of Watchmen
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/...79b89dd7da0b06
Fox will fight for 'Watchmen' delay By Borys Kit Dec 29, 2008, 03:46 PM ET "Watchmen" Warner Bros.' message to Fox regarding "Watchmen" copyright infringement can be summed up this way: Bring it on. In a defiant statement issued Monday, Warners said it was prepared to go to trial or to appeal last week's ruling by U.S. District Court Judge Gary Feess, who stated that the studio had infringed on Fox's copyright in making the adaptation of the Alan Moore superhero graphic novel. "We respectfully but vigorously disagree with the court's ruling and are exploring all of our appellate options," the studio said. "We continue to believe that Fox's claims have no merit and that we will ultimately prevail, whether at trial or in the Court of Appeals." Fox, meanwhile, is looking for an injunction against the March 6, 2009, release of the movie. "Watchmen," directed by Zack Snyder ("300"), is one of Warners' tentpoles for next year, with a budget well north of the $120 million. While it is considered a seminal piece of literature with an appeal beyond the geek community, Warners has been carefully implementing a publicity campaign to generate word-of-mouth and awareness of the movie. Both sides met Monday morning at the Los Angeles federal court, where Feess said he stands by the Christmas Eve ruling and also said he plans to hold a trial Jan. 20 to decide remaining issues such as damages, how far Fox's rights extend, and if to actually block the release of the movie. Monday's events seem to be a speed bump to a costly settlement, with the hardline postures likely a strategic move for both sides more than anything else. Fox, which finally snapped a long boxoffice losing streak with "Marley & Me," gains most with a settlement, not a blocked release; the studio is already taking a beating in the geek blogosphere for messing with a fan-favorite property. Warners, meanwhile, could be on the hook for millions for developing and then filming a movie in which the film's producer, Larry Gordon, didn't pay Fox turnaround fees after allegedly reacquiring rights to the property. "We are gratified by the recognition of our rights in the Judge's order, which speaks for itself," Fox said in a statement. |

Moving away from The Watchmen fiasco, another DC project looks perty good.
(yes I said perty) GREEN LANTERN! This is basically a detailed outline of a script idea but who knows if this will be the way they go. I can totally see Ryan Renolds doing this role. Click only if you want a spolerific read. http://youbentmywookie.com/entertain...tern-epic-2670 |

Last I had heard, Common was being considered for the role of Green Lantern with the JLA movie. Don't know if they're going to try for a shared universe approach like Marvel is with Iron Man and the non-X-Men franchises, but I'd give a shot to Common.
Besides, last I heard Renyolds is doing Deadpool for the Wolverine movie, isn't he? |

Yeah, he's in Wolverine but I heard he was being considered for GL.
I also heard David Boreanaz was also in talks for Hal Jordan. EPH: I heard they were going with Common for the John Stewart GL, who knows...they might have both Hal and John in their "shared" universe. |

How Thor Came to Earth
Plus, director Branagh to reportedly act in Marvel film as well. by Jim Vejvoda January 2, 2009 - One of the big questions about how Marvel's God of Thunder would make his transition from the Thor movie to The Avengers has reportedly been answered. According to IESB, rumor has it that "the character of Donald Blake has been added to the end of the script. Let me reiterate that he wasn't there before, the script was set entirely in the land of the Norse Gods. The introduction of the character is essential to how Marvel will tie Thor into the Avengers that is set in contemporary Tony Stark/Hulk timeframe. It explains how the actual Thor film will be set in the ancient time of the Norse Gods and how they will subsequently bring the character into a modern time with Donald Blake discovering the magical Norse hammer Mjolnir and turning into Thor." Marvel reminds us of the comic book history of the character of Dr. Donald Blake: "Thor chased a monster into the land of the Frost Giants, a breech of protocol that nearly sparked a war in all of Asgard. Odin had to teach Thor a lesson. He created a mortal body for him, one with a lame leg, and sent Thor, stripped of his powers and memories, to Earth. Thor arrived on the campus of New York State College of Medicine as Donald Blake. Blake proved to be the humble and patient man Odin had hoped for. He eventually graduated with top honors, gained a reputation as a caring family doctor and a brilliant surgeon, and opened a private practice in New York City. His nurse, Jane Foster, was equally caring and competent, and the two began to fall in love." IESB adds that, in addition to directing Thor, Kenneth Branagh will play an unspecified supporting role in the film as well. Branagh previously acted and directed in films such as Henry V, Hamlet, Dead Again, and Much Ado About Nothing. ------- ------- ------- ------- ------- ^ so far, everything about this film looks great. now if only they would pick the actors to play thor, loki, sif, odin, et al. |

Alan Rickman would make an AMAZING Loki I think.
Although I hope they go all Brits and not Americans with fake Brit accents. |

^ alan rickman's too old to play loki, in my opinion. i always pictured loki as a younger-looking god.
and why would they need british accents to play asgardians? |

Cause I said so.
![]() True....I imagine Loki as being like a younger brother but you tread a fine line from "Amazing Comic Adaption" to "Asgard 90210" if they decide to go with a younger cast. |

It's looking more and more likely that Mickey Rourke will play Whiplash in Iron Man 2: Revenge of the Iron.

Not really a superhero movie but was based off some game back in the 90s, I watched the leaked version of Mutant Chronicles. What a waste of two hours. Some of the elements had cool ideas (futuristic society with early 20th century style weaponry due to numerous wars) but man the dialogue, acting and special effects were just horrendous. Definitely warrants the 20% rating on rottentomatoes.

Also I am of the opinion that putting Devon Aoki in a movie and keeping her clothed the whole time is a goddamned waste.
Like really, you're gonna cover that up?

That's some seriously crummy news about Watchmen, although it does give me extra time to re-read the novel.
Re: The Spirit. The reviewer is correct: I've only ever even read Battlefield Earth reviews as harsh as that. But what did he expect? I think anyone who an inkling of common sense should have known this movie was destined for awfulness. Frank Miller hasn't done anything interesting in over a decade. Sin City was on the precipice of being a complete waste of time, only for the saving graces of Rodriguez, Rourke and Willis to bail it out now and then. The less Miller has to do with film, I think, the better. I had an interesting convo w/my brother over Christmas about TDK and it's treatment of Harry Dent. He thought it should have finished after the Joker is captured and not spent the last ten minutes exploring the depths of insanity Dent had fallen into. The theme of redemption, he argued, was trampled by that final scene, and as such the entire movie suffered. |

I think the theme was more about the fall from redemption and how even the most noble of people of can be corrupted.
Like he says "you either die a hero or live long enough to see your self become the villian" |
