Limelight Dress Code...

So last night I was at Limelight.

I get into the bar from -10 degree weather outside. I decide to wait a bit before checking my coat, since I'm a bit cold. In order to pass the time I went up to the bar to grab a beer. Before I can grab one, a bouncer sidles up beside me, and asks me to take off my toque. After several "Are you serious?"''s, I asked him why. He told me that it is Limelight has a Dress Code that includes a no toque policy. He told me that they "Don't want people looking around and seeing other people in toques". I asked him about baseball hats, and he said that they were approriate headwear. I had no choice but to take off my toque.

As a kicker, on the way out, I was in the back raised area, waiting for my friends to say goodbye to people. I had my jacket and toque on, as I was leaving in about 45 seconds. The same bouncer comes up and kicks me out. He said "I've told you once already, so I'm going to have to ask you to leave", and gives me the heave-ho sign with his hand.

I just don't get it.

I'm just wondering if anyone can figure this one out? Promoters of the night?? Any idea as to the logic behind this?

Its a gang thing. In LA they have coloured bandanas. In Canada we have toques. Its a climate adaptation.

Well it sounds to me that the bouncer had nothing elso to do that night so he decided to pick on you!

Sucks because I remember running into the same situation at Turbo once then the bouncer alos tried to tell myka to take his hat off while he was spinning.

Places like limelight hire shitty security because those boneheads can't get jobs at any decent clubs. I remember back in the day those jackasses would build up the line on purpose just so you would grease them to get in.

slimelight is kind of sketchy with their dress code

apparently they won't allow k-way type pants either...its ok to wear track pants and ripped jeans, but you can't wear pants of the *windbreaker* material.

They wouldn't let my friend come in with a football jersey because they said it was gang-related and that they've had problems with gangs.

bouncers in general are boneheads....they're all just a bunch of monkeys that get bossed around all day and told what to do by everyone for a measly $10 and hour. Then they stand around and act like *the shit*

Maybe the bouncer's just playing head games, or pulling a power trip. Or maybe it has some weird association with gangs. Or maybe he just didn't like the look of you.

The slimelight is the last place I would expect to have any sort of dresscode...

~allie~

PS Thanks for saying bye last night byatch!

Personaly I can't understand why limelight would have a dress code. The place is not nice and it weems like they are practically begging for business there on the weekends

Apparently the Saskatchewan Roughriders and now engaged in gang wars with the Hamilton tigercats whilst the Toronto Argonauts and Montreal Alouettes are having a show-down on the mean streets of Coburg, Ontario.

Exactly how does a football jersey=gang colors?

yep - it was like nano seconds after I said bye to you... as soon as you turned around he walked up and asked you to leave.

and I have to agree that limelight is in no position to ask anything of anyone - ever!
that place is bunk!
I had fun there last night but it is a shite hole - the fact people go there at all is something they should be thankful for.

but serioulsy, wtf was up with the limelight?

if you are going to enforce a dress code, make it consistent. i.e. no hats.
not just toques. that makes no sense allowing one type of hat, but not another!!

and if it was to prevent thuggish looking characters, kevin is just about the least thuggy looking person, despite his toque!! there were far more sketchy, thuggy people there!!
grr..hyprocrisy is annoying!!

oh kevin!!! haha........

i am familiar with the 'no toque' poilcy at limelight. Once there was this heavy metal, imma rocker/im 'raving', dude bashing it out on the dancefloor constantly bumping into ppl., giving me high fives, with a beer in my hand and high fiving me so hard the beer tipped on my head (i did NOT instigate this situation at all to make that clear) plain out bonehead this guy was, and we said to the bouncer, kick him out!! haha......he's like, i can't- i can't kick him out for dancing around like an idiot- however if he puts that toque on one more time- he's out!

i did not understand the meaning behind this either, but i do know i was trying to get the dude to put his toque on for the rest of the night!

anyways, nice seeing u again lastnight Cheeka, and allie, and michelle, derek and finally meeting naomi, and oh boy is it susan??? Im sorry. i was very drunk! and thanx for the beer kevin!!! Anytime u would like to get rid of beer cuz u are too full- i'll gladly help!

A dress code in that place is ridiculous. I don't want to touch anything when I'm in there, it's so gross.

haha! i am sorry. I just simply took the offer, he practically begged me to take it from him. haha.......he said nobody would take it. however it was put to good use!! hehe.....

and yes! that dude hit on me too!!! he started saying all this weird shit, as i was sarcastically replying then turning my back to him. then one of my friends -friends, who i hadnt met b4 at this point, grab me and hugged me, then the dude looked and bowed like a kimosoki bow- or something. so funny!

Sorry, I have to disagree.
Last summer at Limelight I lost my arm pouch, with my ID, money, my pager, and my bank card.
One of the security guys, Huey I think, found it on the ground, took it home with him, looked up my number in the phone book, called me up, left me a message and met up with me to give it back.
Everything was still inside and it saved me huge hassles.
NOT ALL bouncers are "boneheads".

I agree, Huey's one of the nicest ones around. But don't piss him off ... I've seen what happens when people do.

The exact same thing happened tome.

Only, swap toque for tank top.
And swap winter for summer.

ANd swap dancefloor for patio.

Limelight sucks.
Stop going there.
It's not even a tribe fad anymore.
