All in all, it had been a weird, weird lottery.

I am 98% sure that this is the last line of a relatively famous short story. One that most of you have likely been forced to read in high school. But for the life of me, I can't figure out what story it is!

The reason I think it's notable, is because the line appeared in writing in an episode of the Simpsons last night, at 11:00 on Fox, in case any of you saw it. And I'm trying to figure out it's importance. I KNOW IT HAS SOME! And yes, I did search the webbernet.

NB: The line could also be: All in all, it had been a weird, weird day.
In which case, it's probably not from a short story.

HELP!

I really thought it was Lottery too. But I found Lottery on the web last night, and the last line was something different. Unless I didn't find it in it's entirety. Does anyone know the last line from the Lottery?

Yeah, I guess that is the entire story. So that's not it.

Does no one recognize the line?

It was the one where bart is being chased by the white pit bull, and then he befriends an aging cowboy actor.

Where the book gets ripped up and it says: "The Lottery" on the torn pages? Or was I just thinking that it said that?

His book is a short story book, and when it gets ripped up, there's a close up of that line (and then it says, The End)...and because there's that close up....I'm convinced there's some significance to it.

I might have this episode on my computer. I'll check, print the screen if I do and we'll have a closer look.
Does anybody know the name of the episode?

I think the whole point was the fact that it was a book entitled "Americans 2nd Best Stories", and in it was a story that was obviously a reference to what is regarded as one of the BEST short stories, "The Lottery", by Shirley Jackson (as already covered). What makes it a JOKE is that it was such a hack ending:

"All in all it had been a weird lottery.

..THE END?"

It's a joke. It's a second rate story with a cliched ending.

BBB.

Blarg©..?

yea they had "The Lottery" on the simpsons before (1 where kent brockman won - slh needed surgery for a twisted stomach)

this one. with Buck McCoy the cowboy - bart is running to school because a dog is chasing him
"eat my short stories" throws 2nd best stories book at dog
dog chews pages - bottom page slips out with "all in all it had been a weird, weird lottery." written at the bottom

teh end. maybe bbb is right. thas all it means.
i wouldnt know. but thats what happened.

No, I tried explaining it to you at the time, but you were too busy Googling to listen.

I don't need to wait, Bog puts the answers in my head right away.
