i also think that just because a filmmaker isn't handing you a nicely packaged story that takes no effort to take in doesn't mean they're not getting their message across.

it just means that movie audiences that are used to hollywood kak are lazy. so you have to work a little to get it, big whoop.

believe me, i feel the same way....
i spent a few years only going to foreign films and art house films - i hate hollywood drivel, and i enjoy having to put in a little effort to get a bigger payoff from a movie.

i do remember wanting to read the book after seeing the movie, just to see if it would make more sense of the film - maybe i should follow up on that

I can't believe this is on T.V. I mean did they show the sex in leg wound part on T.V. or is it all sensored.?! I saw this movie at the uptown for a midnight showing. At the beginning the theatre was about half full, before the end everyone but myself and a friend and a few others had walked out.

Dead Ringers was pretty fucked up too. Especially seeing it at the tender age of 13. I still have trouble watching things with Jeremy Irons in them.

Cronenberg is one guy I'd like to spend a night on acid with in a powerless cabin in the deep woods.

I generally enjoy Cronenberg. I love Naked Lunch, even tho most people I know don't--Naked Lunch really only works as a film if you have both #1 Read the book first and #2 know about Burroughs actual life. These make it a limitedly accessibly movie, but still a good one.

Crash, however, is shite. I hope to god that Cronenberg made it as more of a litmus test of public reaction than an aqctual artistic endeavour. Crash states it's thesis--having to do with the destructive fallout of mankind's perverse obsessions with technology and speed--in the beginning and goes ont o state it again and again in a series of repetitive sex scenes. It's twistedness--like the wound scene--is just another version of the exact same theme, but made to disturb people and thus keep their interest. If it wasn't self-consciously 'wierd' it would be just plain boring.

Oh well--he made up for it with ExistenZ-not exactly meaningful but fun as hell!

I liked Crash. Two scenes come to mind.

The scene where the girl is talking about the crash guys salty, scarred penis.

The scene where that guy fucks the crash girls leg wound.

Dirty.

Apparently, I've been informed that Chronenburg is actually a pretty normal guy in day to day life. He has a lot of imagination, but it only really comes out in his work.

The word is censored and yes, they showed it uncut.

From the Minsitry of it was pretty nasty seeing it for a third time.
