that's kinda funny. no offence. i'm sure it's easy to install since that's what they wanted, but it isn't that great.

i'd run debian or mandrake or maybe even red hat. as for window managers i liked WindowMaker myself.

mozilla for your browser
gvim for your text editor
something else for your everything else.

I think KiFe might be running LiteStep.

But personally LiteStep was a PoS the day it was released.

In 1st year I was running Debian (mmm text based install).. last distro I played with was Mandrake 7.

run linux. use debian. avoid rpms. need a reason, here's one:

apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade!

and as far as the "no software for linux" argument goes, it hasn't been valid for a long long time.

I have a gateway box running a stripped version of red hat on it.

Then I have a dual boot Mandrake 8.1 and Windows XP on another box.
