Yeah, but too bad most of the fukers out there have a can mounted on they're 'factory' exhaust which doesn't do squat or not enough to notice a change in performance. To get more horsepower and be 'more efficient', one would have to replace the entire exhaust system.

Bottom line is that nothing that a person does to a car is wrong as long as it serves a purpose. Estetics are not a good enough reason IMO.

sorry i'm going off. i just know a few people like this who've been in their fair share of accidents and it pisses me off. i'm a good driver, but i could get killed by some idiot who's paying more attention to how cool his blacklight looks than the road?? not cool. end rant again.

Wow!! I'm amazed you have room for your feet in your tiny little world!! F1 racing IS the worlds largest sport in terms of viewership - except for the olymipcs and world cup but if it's only once every four years how can you compare? Plus other forms of racing are watched by MILLIONS and MILLIONS of people. Did you know a CAR racing event has the worlds record for attendence in a public sporting event? No of course you didn't you are ignorant. But it mustn't matter right? The car industry is one of the worlds largest and had a huge effect in creating the global economy as it is today, ever hear of Henry Ford?! Just because my car is capable of going fast does not mean I do all the time - those that speed through school zones are going to do so no matter what cars they drive. By your insane demented disgusting and incredibly IGNORANT (there's that word again) we'd all be driving governed 3 cylinder cars that don't allow us to travel over 100km/h. Speed limits have very little effect on road fatality - alcohol has a much larger impact - There are many countries in this world with higher freeway limits then North America that DO NOT have any correlation to higher automotive fatalities. You clearly know NOTHING about this subject and are making very poor assumptions based on very narrow vision.

What you should learn from this SpinSugar is ignorance is not to be shared - you can keep it for yourself in your tiny little world. If you do not like something take a moment - take a long one your feeble mind may need the time to process - that there could be others, many many others, in fact millions of people who enjoy what you consider something that doesn't "matter". Good luck with that narrow vision - you'll need it.

There was a comment about spring rates not mattering on the first page - I believe they do - shorten your suspension travel and don't increase your spring rate? Not a good idea. I would have posted more about suspensions but the theories and opinions on it are vast and not required here - I explained the basic idea.

I didn't say it doesn't matter. I said it matters less compared shock/strut compression and rebound rates, and lateral weight transfer. Do you race? Under stock class, you're permitted to change your shocks/struts but are required to run stock springs. Believe you me, it makes a HUGE difference. Moreso than a simple lowering.

<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">Originally posted by dancechick:
here is what my boyfriend had to say about this...

"1)lowering your car: why?? please tell me why? what is the point? i
know some guy who can't go over speedbumps and can't park in his
parking
lot because it's too uneven cuz his car is too low. it doesn't even
look
good. why don't you just take off the wheels altogether and have
someone
push your car around. now that would be really KEWL!!!"

Lowering a car lowers its centre of gravity. Combined with an increased
spring rate (read stiff suspension) this can immensely increases the
cars ability to take corners. If a car is properly lowered its
handling
capabilities can be greatly increased. Some cars it does help the car
look better but for functionality lowering a car increases its handling
- IF PROPERLY DONE. No cutting springs. This can also increase
safetly
as it does increase a cars responsiveness. Usually as long as you do
not lower the car below the 'a arms' a car can sit fairly low.

"2) exhaust: what is up with these huge dual exhausts that look like
they could power a space shuttle? is that necessary? and why does you
car have to be loud in order to be cool? it looks ugly, it sounds like
shit, and you're not a racecar driver so get over it."

An engine needs to breathe. By increasing the diameter of the exhaust
pipes you have increased the engines capacity to breathe. It "exhales"
easier. This can provide more power and better fuel efficiency. Yes
they are louder and *most* often the truly loud ones are designed
solely
for noise and the look at me look at me attitude. Also, some people do
race the cars you see them drive daily. There are large parking lot
racing leagues (known as auto x) and many drag racers - look either one
up on the net and you can see there may be a whole world of things you
don't know!

"3) bad paint jobs: neon colours with racing stripes of maybe even if
you're super kewl- flames! it screams retarded. maybe if you were an
eccentric person you could get away with it for sheer kitchy value, but
if you're actually serious......well then..... "

For attention - but remember this is completely objective. Some people
like certain colours and others detest them. Your opinion of a colour
isn't shaping your opinion of someone is it? That would be pretty poor
of you IMO. Most often it is another look at me look at me attitude
though. Sometimes a car is painted a certain way for car shows -
import
tuner car shows are real and there are rewards for a unique looking
car.

"4) decals: here's a few i've seen booting around town......'2fast4u',
'you know you want me' and 'catch me if you can'. i'm not even joking."

Stickers that are stupid slogans like you have mentioned are more of
the
look at me look at me attitude but certain decals are there to
advertise. For instance if I had a sticker that was from a tire store
and I put it on my car and they gave me a discount. Would that be a
good enough reason to have a sticker on my car? That is why you will
see cars with parts stickers sometimes. Sometimes it's just for looks.

"5) black light: inside the car, underneath the car, around your
license
plate- all extremely dorky. it's not a fucking nightclub- it's your
car."

More of the "look at me look at me" attitude or quite possibly a show
car - custom lighting inside a car can be worth money on the import
tuning scene or In Car Entertainment (otherwise known as ICE) shows.

Just because you have no understanding of car culture does not give you
license to share your ignorance. Yes there are people who do things
solely for your attention, good or bad - and it seems to have worked
well on you but that gives you no right, or case, in making derogatory
statements about how some people tune there cars.

FWIW I drive a black VW slightly lowered and slightly tuned that is
raced occasionally. It's black like it came from the factory and my
dick is no smaller then the next guys.

Marry me.
We'll run away together in my Spec-V and laugh at kids in Civic SiR's who try to catch up.

You've obviously never heard of a Taurus SHO.
Needless to say it gives the average Ferrari a good run up until 150MPH and makes Camaros and othe ramerican trash look stupid.

I was gonna say the same thing. A Taurus SHO is still a Taurus. It's not even in the same ballpark as a Ferrari.

Actually, I change my mind. The Taurus SHO must be faster than the Ferrari, since it is the one that has a spoiler.

I don't see anything wrong with tint. I didn't tint my car to look cool, I tinted it because I prefer driving in a car that feels more confined than somewhat open without tint. If they made tint that you couldn't see from the outside, I'd buy that. Oh and I did lower my car too, BUT! it's not what you think I still have a gap between my fender and tire and I can park anywhere, none of that speed bump crap. I didn't like the 4x4'ish stance it comes with stock. The only way you can tell my car is lowered, is the rest of the stock ones are higher. It's not obvious. (handles much better too)

What tints are actually good for is blocking out UV rays and keeping your car from becoming a greenhouse in the summer. Really helps keep a black car a few degrees cooler inside. That was my main reason for doing it - the fact that it looks cool is a nice side effect.

The suspension thing - I do race - just starting and by no means an expert but I do morethen enough reading. My original postings about suspension were more or less just to point out the idiocy in the topic posters argument. If ya like we can talk about corner weighting camber and all sorts of good stuff! FWIW my car is not lowered too much - slightly in fact. Mostly my suspension mods stiffened the whole deal up and lined the rolling axis up back to front. It's a Shine Kit for a 2001 Jetta for those in the know. I'd still like to bolt a rear sway bar on the rear, waiting for the wallet to allow such luxury. Probably also replace strut mouts with a stiffer uerathane - apparently it makes for a much more exact turn in. If you wanna discuss cars I pretty much live at www.20vturbo.com, a VW enthusiast site. I only took part here to point out the terrible generalizations in Spinsugars post.

Great board here, nice place to lurk

I didn't get a chance to finish my post as my boss came and shit on me for being on the forums at work.. Doh..

ugh.. the 97 SHO was a heap of shit. The 1994 with the Yamaha 3.0L is what I'm refering to. Some guy in a 79 Ferrari 400Gti raced my friend and I in his SHO down Bay Street one night at around 2:00am, and we stayed neck and neck with him the whole way. Needless to say that this rice boy is impressed with Ford Taurus' for the most part now.

I think souped up cars are fine as long as its*souped* up tastefully. For example, I think its lame to see people driving in '85' Honda Civics with 17 inch rims and canadian tire exhuasts
