Is madonna the brand as familiar as Coca Cola? Sure but it's certainly not because her tired, grab-whatever-musical-cliche-is-current-and-fuck-it-to-death style is anything approximating 'relevant' or 'good'.

Her entire shitty career is a mass-marketing wet dream of factory-produced pop. Fuck they probably have workers in Shenzhen churn it out for her and they just stick ol' robotits' voice over the top.

Though I agree that it's calculated, I think she's doing most of the marketing and churning. Look at anyone who has ever worked with her and she's a tireless, fearless and slave-driving businessperson/artist in the studio, on stage and at an event. You don't take a cab to NYC with $35 in your pocket and become the world's most famous woman without hard work.

im sure if madonna was 18 yrs old today, and just came out now, she would have a zillion views just like katy perry and lady gaga and rihanna etc etc etc. and she would have clothing lines, and perfume and all that shit, and make a kazillion dollars more than she did back in the 80s cause people didnt do that shit back then. today its the norm. madonna is a power hungry, driven, smart woman, if she was introduced to the world today she would make just as much as an impact cause she would make damn sure she did.
considering how old she is, I think she does pretty well at keeping up with times.

Springsteen is far more relevant to music these days than Madonna. Also, moist 10 year old don't know who Madonna is. They know Nikki Minaj and that's why Madonna props herself up with them-to remain relevant. Just because you know who she doesn't make her relevant. If anything she's more irrelevant than ever.

Sprinsgteen, on the other hand, has had a string of top 10 and critically acclaimed records over the last 20 years. Is still a top ten earner on tours(Magic and The Rising are in the top 20 all-time), cited by Arcade Fire, Gaslight Anthem, The National, The Hold Steady amongst others as a vital and massive influence. Won a Golden Globe 3 years for The Wrestler and had a documentary screen at TIFF. Appeared on the cover of Spin with The Arcade Fire. Headlined Glastonbury and Isle Of Wight and is again this year. The late great Clarence Clemons of the E Street aslo worked with Lady Gaga on her latest album.
