Question about the driving/cell phone ban

Is it a subsection of the Highway Traffic Act (and therefore only applicable on public roads) or is it a stand-alone law that extends to parking lots and other private property as well?

Hmm not sure but they say that's you would only get charged if you are driving the vehicle (i.e. moving). If you're parked then no. How much say do cops have on private property anyways for bi-laws like this?

Well, they can arrest you for driving drunk on private property. Or for causing a danger to others.

I'm just curious as to whether this is essentially a driving law or a public safety law.

why would cops be on private property? dont that have to have permission?

and dont parking lots have more accidents on average than roads, even though they are not nearly as bad?

i would assume if a cop saw an asshat on his phone in a parking lot about to turn onto a road, you will get a ticket.

buy a blue tooth ear piece, and avoid hassles from da Five O.

Cops patrol mall/theatre/bar parking lots all the time. They don't need permission.

I hate the Bluetooth earpieces. I'll probably just use my speakerphone and scream, TBH.

Fuck an earpiece, I just got some hands-free dealie that I installed right into the car.

Now it looks like I'm talking to myself, but on the bright side I don't have to douche up my ear with bluetooth.

to each their own, and all i am saying is any excuse that gives a cop the ability to ticket you and make more money via the tickets will be enforced, especially when just being implemented.

therefore speaker phone it up, and start holla'in.

Wait so those "stop" signs in parking lots that other people not me ever treat as optional, cops could ticket you for running them?

If I ever got ticketed in the parking lot of Highland Farms I would throw celery at the police. I mean come on.

Stop signs on private proerty = stoptions

The only car-related things that you can get booked for on private property are Criminal Code infractions (e.g. drunk driving).

I also have a question about the new law.
Am I still allowed to eat my bowls of cereal on my morning commute?

What about reading the newspaper?

actually they do, they receive permission from the property owner to patrol the premises, they cannot ticekt on PP without prior consent to do so.

Ticketing and doing swoops are two different things. If a cop sees any illegal activity happening (breaking into cars, a fight, drug deals) they can pretty much go anywhere.

as long as the key is in the ignition, yes they can arrest you.

Did you guys hear about the set fines for passing in the lane close to pulled over cops? You can be fined for not moving to the opposite lane when a Police cruiser has pulled over a car.

$490 and 3 demerit points taken.
