Why is it some dentists get pleasure out of making you feel bad?

The other day I was at the dentist. I knew I had a cavity that I needed to get checked out and it was a problem but i didn't think it was anything serious. I get there and after an exam the dentist informs me that I need to get a root canal and that it will require a speacialist which he can recommend to me. After that
he goes on this big trip about " you are not being responsible with your teeth and this is your fault. You are 29 years old blah blah". Just basically like a 5 minute bitch session at me and making me feel bad about
my condition. Then after he tells me that the previous fillings, were done wrong and they need to be redone and also that I have might need braces.

When I heard that last part I was freaked because my teeth are almost perfect when it comes to be lined up correctly.

After the exam the dentist informs me that he nor the speacialist accept Native insurance and that this will cost me around 2800 or so and he gives me this look of laughing at how I can afford it all.

At the time I was thinking " what the fuck man? I am about to shell out 2800 dollars to you for about 2 hours worth of service the least you could do is try to be ncie to me or even give me a massage or something to entice me. Not fricken berate me because I have a health problem and I am trying to get it addressed at your office"

Imagine if you went to the doctor and the doctor said " what the hell is wrong with you? how could you get HIV? You need to be more responsible. This is totally your fault and you could have avoided this. "

Long story short I was so pissed off at this guy's general attitude ( and also his racist policy of not accepting Native Insurance)
that I went to another dentist.

Turns out i didn't need a root canal they just gave me a deep filling and 3 weeks later I am fine. As well turns out actually I have great dental health and according to another dentist my teeth are wonderful and she wondered if
i did have braces before infact because of how straight they are. My other fillings were fine and to top it off they accept the Native insurance.

Maybe the other guy has boat payments to make or something.

anyway I don't trust dentists. Went from 2800 dollars and a lot of work to two visits and full coverage. I didn't get a massage
at the end but I did get a discount card on a new electric toothbrush.

why would a fake made-up person need braces anyway? the whole thing sounds highly suspicious.

and how does native insurance differ from white man insurance? does native insurance pay the doctor in animal pelts instead of money? why would a doctor care whether the insurance is native if it results in him getting paid for working on your teeth?

He's probably laughing because spending that $2800 was totally avoidable if you'd taken care if it earlier.

(went through the same thing earlier in the year)

It could be worse. You'd feel bad if you woke up from a procedure only to find your pants were unbuttoned, your underwear missing, and the dentist with a huge smile on his face.

Comes from the department of Indian affairs and is based on your treaty rights. They have to bill directly to the Dept but apparently in Alberta they are not too keen on doing it.

It is wierd because I never had any issues in Ontario. Mind you alberta is not so open i guess.

The 2800 was not needed all that was needed was a filling hence why I am skeptical of his whole thing. Went from so much needed work and costs with one guy to only one procedure with another and then a general check up.

Who knows I guess.

Maybe the filling will fall out again.

Because it is a business they have the right to refuse any payment they choose. I was surprised as well.

I'm confused, you didn't actually need a root canal? Wow if he had given you that and you didn't actually need one that's pretty unethical.

Weird. So in theory they could say, well, fuck you if you have SunLife coverage, we don't take that either...strange.

I'm hearing so many stories about Dentist trying to rip off their clients now lol. They are becoming the worlds new mechanic. You hear what they have to say and you believe them lol. Good thing you went for a second opinion because the first guy sounded like he had some issues.

well I went for just a filling at the other place and it has now been 3 weeks and I am fine. So he must have been way off on his exam of me. Not too mention wanting to redo my other fillings

I think it's more for little shit like X-raying your damn head every six months...or - and this was new to me - checking your gum depth. WTF? Unless there is some specific problem that needs monitoring (e.g. impacted teeth), why would you need to do a costly X-ray every time that I come in?
