Alien Invasion Week on Discovery Channel

Life Beyond Earth: Is Anybody Listening?
Monday August 5, 2002, 9:00 p.m., et
This episode investigates the attempt to detect signals from extraterrestrial civilizations. Since interstellar space flight would be slow and expensive, the best way to contact intelligent extraterrestrials may be communication - sending messages rather than starships. Earth's radio and TV broadcasts have traveled far beyond our solar system, reaching hundreds of other stars - and presumably planets. Since inhabitants of other planets - if they exist - may be doing the same, SETI (the Search for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence) employs large radio telescopes, designed to scan the heavens for signs of intelligent life.

Alien Abduction: The Mystery Unraveled
Tuesday August 6, 2002, 9:00 p.m., et
Over the past several decades, accounts of alien abduction have been steadily rising. Explore the possibility that another baffling and terrifying human phenomenon - sleep paralysis - might offer new clues to explain alien abduction. The program follows personal accounts of both alien abductions and sleep paralysis, while abduction and sleep paralysis experts duke it out over the true cause of the victims' traumatic attacks. We bring these shocking first-person accounts to life through dramatic re-creations and uncover the dark antecedents to these phenomena, illustrated through artwork of various nocturnal intruders through the centuries. Also revealed here is cutting-edge research, suggesting that human physiology may be at the heart of both inexplicable experiences. Through personal stories, sleep paralysis may explain many cases of alien abduction, but it does not account for them all. The mystery remains.

Ghost Detectives
Wednesday August 7, 2002, 9:00 p.m., et
They're the 'Fantastic Four' of fantasy, the 'Mod Squad' of the unknown. Paranormal investigator Dr. Andrew Nichols, psychic Jeri Rogers, and technical experts Jack Roth and Scott Flagg are the "Ghost Detectives" - on a high-tech search for the supernatural, a 'Mission Impossible' to uncover the impossible. We feature the ghost detectives' journey to America's oldest and most haunted destination, St. Augustine, Florida. There, they confront a floating head in an ancient castle dungeon, a ghostly girl in a mysterious haunted lighthouse, and the power to communicate with the dead in our own dreams.

World of Mysteries: Crop Circles and Desert Lines
Thursday August 8, 2002, 9:00 p.m., et
Giant Earth drawings, known as geoglyphs, exist around the world. In the coastal desert of southern Peru, thousands of geometric shapes and lines form huge pictures that can only be seen from the air; while mysterious crop circles appear in English cornfields.

Life Beyond Earth: Are We Alone?
Friday August 9, 2002, 9:00 p.m., et
This episode traces the search for life on other planets and explores the origins of life on Earth. The discovery of water and organic molecules across the solar system leads scientists to speculate that life may be cosmically commonplace. Life Beyond Earth proposes that is may be reasonable to believe that life may exist on any planet with abundant water and a molten core...no matter how far it is from its local star.

i like the show where they get the bikers to modify street cars to do weird things like become garbage trucks and firetrucks yet still look completely unmodded. a definate new favorite show - better than junkyard wars, even.

hmm. do you think this happens coincidentally, just as Signs is in its critical first week?

I wish I could take anything on TV at face value. Even the shows are commercials, which is why I don't watch TV.

Yes, I'm a cynical, jaded sumvabitch. But I'll be okay. Thanks for asking.

Yeah, I thought of the "Signs" movie tie-in as well...anyways, it starts tonight and since I'm quite fascinated by UFOs and such, I'll definitely be checking out these shows.

BTW, "Signs" raked in over $60 MILLION this past weekend!

OOooOO.. the mysteries of how a bunch of English art students mashed some crops down with some planks and rope.
