Caribana is all about fences and control

you need a lot of fences and barriers

this sucks when you are a private security guard and you have to tell people that they can't use this entrance. At Caribana you will see lots of police, but you will never find them around these entrances.

can I take your picture,... please

eventually somebody decides to take matters into their own hands and cut a hole in the fence. This happens every year, many times

After all, why the fuck should you have to pay. It's a PARADE.

It's supposed to be free.

more fences

The City of Toronto likes the concentration camp look

So if you don't want to pay and don't feel like jumping the fence, this is the way you have to go. It looks clear now but imagine if the crowd was to surge, what would happen. The City, the Police and Caribana have totally ignored how the pedestrian traffic flows. It's a major disaster just waiting to happen.

Do you think a cop might be observant enough to see any of these bottlenecks and maybe ask the vendors to move along. No, they are too busy looking at their shoes and avoiding eye contact.

i went for Barrington. He was awsome, and the crowd was hyped. I've never seen Harbourfront that rammed!

Broader than Broadway clip
(i didn't have my camera so this was taken on my crappy phone video, but you get the idea, you can almost hear the crowd singing louder than Barrington Levy!)

Stewart sentenced to life for Caribana shooting

A judge has sentenced a gang member to life in prison with no hope of parole for 16 years for the "callous and outrageous" shooting of a man during a Caribana celebration in Dundas Square.

Ajine Stewart fired two shots into a crowded public square in the presence of hundreds of people and dozens of police officers, Justice David McCombs said today.

"He killed an unarmed man and devastated the lives of his victim's family," the judge said. "It was only good fortune that no one else died that night."

It took a jury only two hours in October to convict Stewart, 27, of the July 31, 2005, of second-degree murder in Dwayne Taylor's death.

The 4:30 a.m. shooting was captured by security cameras mounted across the street at the Eaton Centre.

"Society has the right to expect the courts to act firmly and decisively in the face of proven crimes like this one,"the judgesaid.

Outside court, prosecutor Paul McDermott said that Stewart testified in his own defence that he was a gun-toting drug dealer, who felt he needed a loaded firearm to protect himself against other gang members who might be armed.

i refuse to go to the guv or the docs,

not based upon the weekend, which used to be fun, isnt particularily anymore, and when 50 bouncers get basically attacked 2 - 1 on sat nights, and it takes uniforms with crowd control measures to stop it,

w e a k a s f u c k

is what that is.

move it to december in winnipeg

i dont want those under achieving rent-a-SUV douche bags in toronto evar.

No they don't.

I love the steel drum competition though, missed it this year unfortunately.

My only complaint is my friends who I usually love attending Caribana with each year are out of town this weekend. I have nobody to attend this amazing and very fun cultural event with this year. All my others friends are either scared, ignorant or just plain racist people.

The only issue I have ever had with Carabana is the traffic, so I am joining the white flight too and going to the cottage. I usually miss Carababa because I rarely spend a long weekend in the city
