Dude, you're not doing them any favours with defensive logic like this....

If a large truck got stuck in the intersection on a yellow and had to finish crossing on the red... is that any different?

if the truck was driven by hundreds of different people, and broken up into hundreds of independant parts - i guess it's about the same.

otherwise - yes, it's remarkably different. one vehicle, one driver vs. hundreds of vehicles with hundreds of drivers.

Dude, the truck is a solid object and I can't believe I'm even typing this. Surely leaving half your group behind for five minutes is better than a cyclist getting creamed by that large truck! Come on.

Be prepared for a party indeed! It's a great time and fun to meet everyone!

So... A personal apology from me to anyone who actually comes tonight and still has a negative opinion afterwards. See for yourself.

Introduce yourself. I'm the guy with the moustache.

"If a large truck got stopped, and 15 other large trucks came and blocked traffic so the convoy could get through" would be a better comparisson.

That's the whole point! "Critical mass" ... implying the group has reached a size where it becomes one entity and is safer as a group.

The term originated in China where cyclists gather at a corner until there's enough people (a critical mass) where they then spill onto the street and can proceed without worry of being run over like they would as an individual.

I love all the hysterics about the red light.

OH MY DEAR LORD! THE FUCKING LIGHT IS RED! THE SKY IS FALLING!

a group of 20 bikes is enough to reach 'critical mass' without having to run reds. If you can't get through on one traffic light, you're not "critical mass" and you're likely to end up "critically injured".

You're not one entity.... stop using crazy logic.

Good point, I'll hop in a rented PT Cruiser tonight and run a red around 6:01 at Bloor and Spadina.

OK, what is the point, really. Other than proving that a couple of hundred people can generate sufficient "mass" to override traffic laws due to the size of said mass, what exactly is the point of this?

what if the crankshaft and spark plugs were left behind at a red light and the rest of the car and engine went through?

Ah, I admit it... it's just to piss off the cagers.

Too bad you can't do anything about it though!

You can stomp your feet and posture all you want, but its still gonna happen.

The problem is that individuals dont realize that while participating in these events, that their actions are perceived as representatives of the group they are a part of. And everyone should lead by example instead of reacting like an member of an angry mob.

If you're trying to make a point about an existing problem, do it properly. Do be part of a new problem.

What angry mob? The only angry mob I've seen are the people who are stuck in their cars.

Oh they realize. And as Brad just admitted above, they don't really have a point other than to piss off drivers. Proving Rataxes bang-on right.

Congratulations. Well done.

Whoosh.

You're missing the point.

I'm not for or against these events. I'm just sayin that all who participate should be on best behavior as to not give the event a bad name.

If you have a ton of ice cream and you throw a pound of shit into the mix, then you have a ton + 1 pound of shitty ice cream.

I was being facetious though.

Like I said, everyone really should come out and see for themselves. CM is what YOU want it to be. There's no organization or rules. If you think you can make it more productive then come down and do so!
