How much do you get paid to be in a commercial?

We're having an argument at home about how much you would get paid to be in a 30 second commercial, something generic, like, "tim hortons".

My guess is $1000 - $2000 and then afterwards, you get paid each time it's aired.

Anyone know?

I don't think you get paid each time it airs, but 1000-2000 bones sounds about right for a Timmy Ho's commercial.

But I heard the good folks at Lockport Gambino Ford do it for the love of the art form.

You will get royalties for everytime the commercial runs again.

My brother still gets cheques for his role as a skateboarding farmer for the milk advisory board.

with commericials you generally get a "one time" fee.

there is no set amount of money that you would make. I know people that have got well into the thousands for just walking around and looking pretty... and i know people that have made hundreds... some girl i know got $400 to have the back of her head in a rogers commercial a few years back.

and if you're a celebrity... the amount could be huge.

depends on who you are.
depends on how much you say.
depends who's making it.
depends on the budget.

you don't get paid each time it airs... if you're smart and lucky you get something in your contract that means you get paid for a 3month run of the commercial... if it's a good one and they choose to run it for another 3 months... you get more money for that broadcast period. (typically 3 months) But I know ppl who make livings off of acting in commercials (radio/tv) You can make a hell of a lot of money. When I was 7 I got paid $1000 bucks to be in 3 scenes of a pharmaceutical company commercial... and i didn't know fuck about shit.

I've never heard of continuous royalties for someone being in a commercial? Royalties are money that is paid to the creator/owner of a performance art... normally for the use of something is copyrighted. like If I put out a mix CD that I'm selling.. I will pay for the licensing and in some cases pay royalties (a small percentage) for every unit sold.

I have a feelign you're thinking about residuals... but i don't think that would apply to a commercial? That's when the producers of a television show sell that show to be broadcast again.. like re runs or in syndication. The actors if it's in their contract, would get a small percentage of each show re broadcast.

I know a bunch of people that have done commercials.. everything from rogers wireless to national campaigns for major US retailers, and I've never heard of them getting paid everytime the comemrcial is aired.

If your bro got that, I would think he lucked out!

Sorry that whole post was worded poorly.

Basically he gets a new cheque for every "run" which is every couple of months.

But it adds up pretty quickly.

some deals will give you residuals.
an acquaintance of mine ended up in a beer commercial years ago, and got cheques for a long time after.

Actually, a couple of my friends did, and do, this...

Yeah $2G's to 5G's... depending...

Then they spend their 'downtime' wondering where their next gig will come from...

I have a friend who was in a Bauer commercial and got 10 000 off the bat and then cheques for every time it aired. HE made a tidy sum for a days work.

having read that, it seems like commercials are good part time jobs.

well i can give you the low down because this is what i do, this is my life lol...

yes, it does totally depend on the product and the budget.

USUALLY the bigger the company- the higher the budget - the more the actors get paid.

Secondly it depends if the job is a union job, as in its meeting the production agreements set out by ACTRA..... or a non-union job which means they can do whatever the hell they want

the 'average' commercial is about $1500 flat for one days work. If the commercial goes over and you have to come back the next day they usually tack on another 700-900 per day.

If it's an ACTRA commerical they have to pay for travel time and over time which can add up nicely, so they could pull in another $300 - $500 or so...

but then there are exceptions like beer commercials where they usually pay more than the average.

The only time someone will be paid like HUGE ass cash for a commercial is if they are a celebrity, or if they are the spoksperson, as in they appear in multiple spots, print ads...etc.

Then there come the 'residuals'. You NEVER get paid per airing ever. Its always done by blocks like 6 month blocks, 3 months, a year whatever.... It's usually about $800-$1000 for a block of airing time. but companys rarely keep using the same commercials for more than a year so getting more than three cheques is rare.

Also if your commercial is aired in another country you get a buy-out for that.
