So ive found some live shows I want to download and burn onto a disc. Each show is split into tunes quite nicely and ready for download. Also availiable for downlaod at the head of each show is an .md5 file.

What is it for? Do I need it?

.md5 is a checksum. Its an algorythm that examines a file and generates a 16-bit code. Its used to ensure file consistency.

It's common to recieve .md5 files when downloading .shn's from Furthur.

As far as I know, MD5 is a challenge/handshake authentication algorithm.

    Edit: never mind...he said file. D'oh! :)
