alright - so against my better judgement
I went to mad bar ( yuck! ) to see dj dan...yes... mad bar. forgive me in this lapse of better judgement.

ok...he's great and I loved him @ turbo years back...but this venue and the people ( for the most part ) left little to be deisred...He was ok - not as hard ( or good ) as in last moonshine tour ...but the place ( being there for the first time) - was very cramped - I know, only 200 people - I should have known @ mad bar...and I'm sure that 85% of the people there had no idea who he was...maybe their muscle-t's were on too tight...

went to the women's washroom and found myself trapped in a world of leopard skin and silcone implants with "ladies" sporting little makeup and way too little clothing ...
ugh - this is why I hate going out. what a bust.

OH ya, plus I spent the entire set face to face with him at the front
I have no idea what the crowd was like elsewhere
It was just me, Dan and the MUSIC!
I may as well have been alone in that club.

OMG!! [IMG] There are no other words to describe it. DJ Dan kept me going all nite. And props need to go to Mika as well, You helped set this party off! Strech & Hooker, sorry but I didn't stick around! All in all, the party was happening! Issues: the mammoth fans blowing everyones smoke in my eyes! [IMG] & the benson & hedges "rave culture branding!"

    Peace [IMG]

    Can't-find-words-to-describe-it.

If there was any doubt in my mind at all that DJ Dan was the ISH, it was completly abolished last night.

    Dan destroyed.

He was out of control. It was a crazy big room set that pounded the crap out of Mad Bar and everyone inside. I lost it, I totally lost it. Constant looks of disbelief were seen across my face as he threw down pure hardcore Dan style tracks.

I didn't stop dancing the whole time.
I needed water and had to go to the bathroom, but I didn't want to miss anything. That's how crazy it was.

The best was being sooo close to the decks and being able to watch the master at work... good lord.

People can make fun of me for going off like this, but I know that this was one of the best nights I have had in a long time. The summer parties just keep getting better and now I really can't wait until Mekka.

Props to the TBK crew, even though we were few.

    Un-fucking real! Absolutlely unbelievable.

Hye, your post cracked me up. But Im laughing with you. I have a feeling that it would have taken a minor miracle for you to have had a good time last nite. [IMG] I got the exact same way whenever I used to go to Tonic. Just the thought of the place used to bring me down, no matter who was playing. Some places just leave a bad imprint on the memory and it's hard to shake.

Sweet mother of creatures big and small....

There is a reason why I have always stated that DJ Dan is my favourite DJ. Period. Just to get nostalgic on your ass for a second but Dan's "Funk The System" was the first music from the scene that I ever bought. I instantly fell in love and heard all other DJ's spinning his tunes from that EP. From then on...the boy is absolutely SICK from seeing him at Moonshine Over America, to Jet nightclub, to Turbo, to Industry, to Connected Raves....I feel that no one tops this man on the decks.

Last night was no exception. I got there early to avoid disappointment at around 9:30 and was not surprised to see a line up already happening. Doors opened at around 10:05 and I parked my ass right next to the speaker on the left. I decided that I ain't movin' for nobody.

Now we all know that Mad Bar is a space that is quite small and has a tendency to overheat. I was surprised with the mix of people and how quickly this venue started to burst at the seems with steaming flesh. But it was to be expected....my boy was coming on.

Big props goes out to Myka... No warm up floor filler here (See Ian Pooley thread and his Walmart Muzak). Myka, in hard house fashion, built a solid foundation of beats to keep the crowd pumpin' and jiving their bodies. This boy can play too so don't front on your Toronto DJ's. So good to see Kenny Glaslow boppin' in the back to Myka's set as well. The anticipation of Dan's appearance is starting be overwhelming.

Wait...is that him? I think it is. The little pudgy white dude with a hat made his way to the decks with his boxes of records to the chants of "DJ DAN..DJ DAN"...

That's where I realized after all this time of partying in clubs jumping to see this DJ and that DJ and suffering constant disappointment, the time for audio annihilation is right fucking now!!! This is the moment I have waited for. Finally I get to see my favourite DJ up close and personal. He did not disappoint me for one second. That hard, electro-robotic, techno, funk shit is what I like to hear. Non-stop beats with fast BMP's were also in order for the evening. His programming is absolutely impeccable. The wind from the speaker was rattling pants as I bust a move on the floor. The guy is so serious as well. He rarely looks up to see what's going on. He just grabs the next disc and is ready to pump.

    Whew!

Ok....so I had to eventually take a piss. The bottles were rattling and buzzing as they fell off the speakers. The people who I waited with in line were dancing their asses off....but there were some "undesirables" who were trying to physically move me from my spot. Fuck that bitch who kept on trying to grab my glasses and being coy enough to try and step in front of me to block my view. I still ain't moving (apart from dancing) even though they put these stupid evergreen trees in front of the turntable podium. Shit I think I've got some foliage rubbing my crotch! I would rather be humping the speaker. [IMG]

At around 2am...the place started to clear. Perhaps the rest of the crowd had had enough. Perhaps they could not handle the mayhem that Dan was subjecting us too. Suddenly there was room to move....and now that I had my arms as well as my feet moving to the plethora of beats and electronic bleeps, it now felt like a party. What a party it was! You could tell who the real heads and die hards were and who also believe this DJ is top notch!

Time restraints had me worried about leaving. I couldn't find my way to door until Dan's magical set ended. Dripping with sweat from the emulsification of fat off of my body from jacking my body to the beats all night.....I went up to the man of the hour, shook his hand, and expressed why he was my fav and will always be.

    Thank you DJ Dan...

As I wake up this morning, my body still hurts,....I think I am gonna have to pass on the gym today and my lovely wife Misstress Barbara tonight.

    Time to recover....

^^^ I second THAT emotion, Brother! Tonic hurts my soul.

Smiley Jo: YaY! I wasn't there, but I'm happy when people have that kind of time.. that was me at Richie Hawtin. Nights like these make the 20 medicore nights we go through worth it.

that is the craziest CD ever!!!! tracks 4 till the end are fucking amazing. unfortunately my cd got misplaced (lost or stolen) on a camping trip.

u guys are so lucky you got to go. dj dan is my favorited dj. i was so disappointed when he didn't show up a freakin.

i remember a couple years ago at turbo when he spun. it was so crowded but i was determine to have a good time no matter what.

the first time i seen him at connected a couple of years ago, that totally changed my views on music. i didn't really know what house music was until then.

    peace

p.s. props to the dj in the back room at system a couple of weeks ago(same night as seb fontaine) who spun the trevor rockecliffe remix of needle damage.

I can't remember the last time i was at a club in lineup at 9:15am [IMG]

I knew it was gonna be fun when some Jo grrl came up smilin an gigglin.. followed shortly after by 1 very cracky and very high birthday grrl.. and her sidekick.. in much the same state.

at first i was wondering what the heck i was gonna do to kill the time b4 dan started.. but much thanks to lynn (mmmidget) Jo.. jay.. 'pierre'.. tina.. etc for some actual conversations! something i don't get to enjoy too often at clubs..

just before dan was comin on I made it to the front to help make our 'tbk barrier' across the front row.. we were successful in keeping this in tact until we left [IMG] go team go!!!

Dan's set was a pleasure to witness.. he was very much into it ... and damn does he ever layer a lot... the benifit of witnessin his skill so close is i now have a much better respect for his skills... as if i didn't already.

    Dan's the man...

he's also aware of the sound....... may sound wierd but some dj's are just dumb when it comes to that...... oblivious to possible sound issues... at one point he leaned over and asked me if i was hearing a popping sound from the main system..i stopped..listened... 'sounds goood dan'.... 'thanks!'.... 2 min later... dan says to me...'man..where the heck is the light guy!' [IMG] haha

Anyways... 2 fantastic evenings in a row.. this week has been a blast..... and tonight is deep dish@ system.. where some REAL drinkin is planned!

    JO ----- I hope i convinced ya!

    Cheers and thanks.

    OH.

    MY.

    GOD.

How am I going to be able to put words to this? Nothing i could say could do last night justice.

I stood a foot away from my favourite dj, close enough to reach down and spin his records for him, and witnessed one of the single most incredible sets EVER. I have no idea how packed it was in there, it didn't matter. I had my 2'x2'of dancefloor space frontrow center and that was my world for those few hours of sheer bliss.

Most of DJ Dan's set I had my eyes closed...I've never felt sooooo into a set before. The BPM was nice and fast, the tunes were deep and funky, even quite tribaly at parts...I coudln't have asked for music more catered to my EXACT tastes.

Technically, DJ Dan DESTROYED. Incredible layering, sheer manipulation of the tracks before him to produce some of the sweetest sounds ever. It was mesmerizing watching him from that close do his thing...

The VIBE! Ohh my god the vibe was incredible. People were chanting out his name even up till the end of his set, revering him like the God he is.

I can't go on enough about what I witnessed last night. I said it a hundred times last night, "BEST BIRTHDAY EVER". Teehee, even Dan wished me a happy birthday. I was lucky I had already started drinking before I got there since none of us wanted to leave the dancefloor to hit the bar. [IMG]

Hahahaha Joey and I somehow ended up in the VIP area when we got there cause we had Molson Indy Pit Crew passes (which is another entirely different drunken story all together)....they had caviar and shit up there! It was hectic!

Anyways, the ONE night I didn't have my camera on me....wonh wonh. [IMG] Oh well, honestly, that's one experience that will be in my head for a long, long LONG time.

    Couldn't agree more. [IMG]

    =tina= <--still in shock

Everything about the night was almost perfect. I give it a 9 out of 10. It only gets a 9 cuz for me, there was one thing missing. My Love Janice. I'm sorry that you weren't there baby, I know your not as much of a DJ Dan Fan, but if you were there to here him drop Antoine's track, it would have been over. I thought of you the whole time and even tried my hand at some dancing in you honor.

I missed you greatly. You would have made the night complete for me.

OMG!!!! I have to admit walking into Madbar last night i was scared i wasnt going to have a good time. For one i heard there was a line up at 9:30 I didnt think i was even going to get in.
When i got there i was happy to see that there wasnt much off a line so we got in okay, but getting a drink was another thing. Madbar is small and with Dan the Man in town it was crazy.
Myka was ripping it up and i let him know it when he got off(good to see you brought your dancing shoes). I first saw Dan walking through the crowd with his records and i looked at my friends and told them to "hold on, the night is about to start".
Dan did not dissapoint. From when the crowd was chanting "DJ DAN, DJ DAN" i knew it was about to get serious. It was like he was home, shaking hands with the crowd and talking to them like they had known eachother for years. Awsome, I love a DJ that interacts with the crowd.
DJ Dan ripped it up like it was no ones business and the crowd was loving it. The crowd was all smiles and it looked like everyone was having a good time. Definatley a party with some true headz. Suke it was good to finally meet you and Nesta and i will definatley be there for Deep Dish.
For those who didnt make it out last night, sorry and better luck next time. Nothing better than seeing a great DJ in a small club.
    See you at DEEP DISH
    Peace

If there is one thinkg left to going out that makes me excited, like really, I want to dance all night excited its Dan. I went for a girls night, knowing that means trouble. Booze, my girls and beats-its all over then.

To put it simply-Dan rocked it. He kicked my ass. I haven't got that bezerk in months...well since the last time he played. My head hurts from shaking it, my legs hurt from dancing.

As graet as many DJs are, as far as I'm concerned, no one will ever EVER be as great as dan. Period.
