first mixtape i ever bought was carl cox live @ utopia. great tape. i'd love to see him spin sometime, but not on a wednesday.

and i'd have to agree, he is playing pretty commercial stuff, and not entirely techno. but then, variety counts, and who can argue with watching a large Black egg-shaped man rock the house? [IMG]

I've heard Carl Cox play a more tech housey set, and I've seen him throw down some proper pumpin' techno. When he's on (as was the case last March at Turbo), watch out!

    Carl Cox Rox my Fox...

    Too commercial

    Commercial = Capitalism...

Capitalism = Too much money --> no TRUE passion for music --> no excitment --> BORING!

On one hand I want to go- I've never heard Cox live- but I don't think I will have any space to move inside Tonic, and that would be just too frustrating.
He may be commercial, but his passion and enthusiasm can't be ignored. Take him for what he is- a true party DJ- willing and able to rock just about any room.

I wouldn't go so far as to say he has no passion for the music. I don't believe that if you start to make large sums of $$$ doing something that you love to do, the passion will automatically disappear.
I'm not a big fan of his track selection, but I'd definitely go see him again under the right circumstances (not in a ridiculously crowded place like Tonic though). He rocked Turbo last year and put quite a show even if the tracks were quite commercial.
    (just my 2 pennies)

*crosses his fingers that he comes to MTL*
that's the great thing about Carl Cox... he can rock any form of music! House, Trance, techno, whatever... the man is sick.

I've got credible sources that say last time he came to Sona he made the likes of Missy B look like a wuss.

And no passion for the music!? Have you seen the fat man rock the decks!? He always has the hugest smile on his face and always interacts with the crowd. Sure it might all be an act, but who cares? The man is a good time guarnteed each and everytime.

    -peace-

that is the purist fucking bullshit lame excuse i have EVER heard not to go see a dj.

    thats pathetic.

im not his biggest fan, but fuck dont sit there and talk shit outta your ass...cause all i hear is that--> BULLSHIT.

that guy surely makes enough CASH, but dont sit there and say he doesn't do it for the love of the music...big or small, he does what he loves, and has made a great career outta of it.

What's the matter??? im sure if he dropped your beloved rother/ new wave propaganda "electro" -> if thats what you call it...you would love his ass.

    my two pennies.

    peace.

For your information...I used to work at Turbo...I WAS THERE when he played...I got to see what went on backstage.....

...Commercial FAKE bullshit. I can say this because I've seen it with my own eyes. It's funny how much sh*t you see when you bartend at a club!

And yes...my dear Anthony Rother. The master of Elektro production. So dark...so yummy...SO REAL!

Hey tEkKiD...when Rother comes here (in the very near future - along with Krome and Allien) and if you go to that party...please don't forget to stand/dance beside me so that I can wipe your drool off your clothes...then come and talk to me about REAL talent and not some Ibiza $$$$$$ bullsh*t.

    XOXO

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA..........OH Doug...you made my night! Thank you so much. Here I was sitting all depressed writing my 12 page essay, and when I read that, I almost fell of my chair! What world do you come from? "new wave propaganda"...that's going to be the highlite of all dumb a** uninformed/uneducated musical comments from today on.

Here you are talking "shit outta your ass" as you like to phrase it. I guess that would make YOU a........hypocrite.

cause you bartend at a club for one night that a guy played at, you can determine his love for the music/crowd??

    whack.

anyhow, i wont be drooling for Rother, and until you the "electro" girl cant seem to mention REAL electro ...ummmmmmm

    aux 88,IF,Dopplereffekt,drexciya.....etc

then i will give you my upmost respect...Rother isn't the only fucking thing behind electro.

    peace.

aux 88,IF,Dopplereffekt,drexciya....yes, they are ALL awesome - no doubt!! BUT like Techno, Elektro has many different sounds. Rother has a very distinct dark style that I have never heard anywhere before! That's my favourite type of Elektro...just like my fav. type of Techno is dark/hard/minimal.

As for your respect, I won't lose sleep without it.

who @m i talking to here?

    read above post.

new wave is getting played, sure its fun, but nonetheless not REAL eletro .

    peace.

<-- has played this shit 8 months ago so please don't call me a hyprocrite, its simply getting overplayed, i never said i didnt like it.

8 months ago...wow...you DA MAN! Whatever. Rother released his first "official" Elektro record 7 years ago with the inspiration of kraftwerk. He has been producing this stuff since 1987...NEW WAVE??? I Don't think so buddy! Get your facts straight dude.

Oh yeah, and for your information, Anthony Rother also produces minimal techno under the name of Family Lounge. He also produces ambient under the name of Psi Performer. Talk about a man of many talents.

O.K. I have to jump in here ,
questioning if Carl Cox cares about the music or not ?. I have had the pleasure of hanging out with Carl on a few occasions he is one of the nicest people I have met.
Carl is a music lover , he has been djing far too many years to even be questioned
about his love for the music. Carl is one of those rare dj's that actually uses his clout to "break" new tunes and sounds, unlike the "sheepish " antics of most European dj's that play what is "hot" at that time.
I think what is due here , is some RESPECT for the "Peoples Dj". Carl was playing techno long before many would give it a chance in the "Main Room " .
    Carl Cox is a pioneer,

    exactly.

bash him , hate him, love him.....

but atleast respect what he has done or did.

always manages to move the crowd... [IMG]

I would have to strongly disagree with you on that one Techbabe!

After hearing him last summer that boy kicked some major ass!

His techno was hard and relentless, he was right into the crowd with his fist in the air and on the mic getting them going.

I have to agree it sucks having to pay the money to hear a big dj, but if you are a big fan it is well worth it.(thats if he shows up!)

PEOPLE...All I'm saying is that I've heard him play before and he bore me! That's my opinion. For all the Carl Cox lovers out there...good...keep on lovin' him. I am entitled to my opinion. Just like some of you out there might dislike some of my favourite djs/producers.

Just because I LOVE TECHNO does not mean that I'll like the same style that you do...I like dark, hard, minimal, EVIL Techno...OK?? I DON'T like clubby-housey-mousey techno, hence I am not fond of Cox.
