Does anyone have any thoughts on Yoji Biomehanika from Japan or would be excited if he came to T.O.?
He has never been to Canada before but he has blown up all over Asia and Europe. He spins and produces hard house, techno-trance.

Admittedly, I would say I'm much more excited to see him after reading the article in last month's Mixmag. He sounds pretty interesting.

    I agree

I know he is playing in Vancouver on the 19th and I think it is a matter of time before he blows up like a Teisto. He is a full entertainer and I think T.O needs someone colourful like him.
I think you would have all types of groups come to check him out.
I agree, after reading a few articles, I am much more curious about this 'Rock Star'.

Misstress Barbara played London regularly back when The Base was still going, but I'm sure that she was getting some attention in Toronto before then...

that's what I found as well. I couldn't handle his set for too long at all.

He was okay but I don't think I would go see him again.

yeah it was very fast (over 150 bpm) and more on the hardcore tip than on the trance tip... dark too, like really hard lab 4 and tinrib-style...

judging by his production work, i'm sure he can play on the trancier side if he knows ahead of time. ;)

at the same time he may have just been trying to put more energy out than mrak eg (not easy) and that could have been the reason for him playing so hard and fast.
    I don't know, just a thought.

What drunken master beaker couldn't handle was basically Yoji playing fast and rather boring uk hardhouse/nrg stuff, where all the tunes pretty much sounded the same. y'know - hoover after hoover, a swishy sound after a swishy sound and lots of high-end noise. it would have actually been nice if he did drop some tinrib stuff, but that he most definitewly did not. only one tune caught my attention as it was a Dynamix release I really liked at the time and still possess in my collection. except that Yoji played the shittier (by my standrds) hardhouse remix. overall it got redundant really fast. he's still a good dj and producer but he didn't do much for me or anyone else that partied in london with us. Mark EG wasn't too spectacular that night either but improved on the dance-ability of the music for the night.

I saw him at that London show too and wasn't overly impressed. He was playing really fast, but I also found that a lot of his tracks just didn't sound all that great. It was all well produced as far as the sound quality, but the actual music was quite dissonnant (listen to his releases and you'll know what I mean).
It was "interesting" for a while but nothing that I'd go out of my way to see again. "Go Mad" is still one of the only releases that I've really enjoyed.

Then again... that was what? Two years ago? It's quite possible that he's improved since then, or that his style has changed. Shit... I don't even play the same genre that I did a couple of years ago.

Just to finish off all the facts on Yoji, he is an official LAB4 dj whenever Adam, Les and Kym make their way into Asia. He also accompanied LAB 4 at couple events in London and thru Oz and NZ.

That night in London he played better than Mark EG, fast, furious NuNRG, which from what I understand is on the opposite side of the spectrum from popular...

Having said that, if you think about hooking up a date for him here in Toronto, which it sounds like you are considering, you may want to consider Quebec setting instead of Ontario...

    All the Best, Michal.
