WSOP '09 Final Table - The November Nine

Anyone else excited to see this go down? Thoughts on who's going to take it down? Of course i'd love to see the proclaimed 'best poker player in the world' win, but I also think Eric Buchman is in good position to take this down as well.

Here are the chip standings going into the final table this week:

Seat 1: Darvin Moon - 58,930,000

Seat 2: James Akenhead - 6,800,000

Seat 3: Phil Ivey - 9,765,000

Seat 4: Kevin Schaffel - 12,390,000

Seat 5: Steven Begleiter - 29,885,000

Seat 6: Eric Buchman - 34,800,000

Seat 7: Joe Cada - 13,215,000

Seat 8: Antoine Saout - 9,500,000

Seat 9: Jeff Shulman - 19,580,000

I've been watching the ESPN coverage a lot .. the only poker show I can really get into. Besides I need my weekly fix of Norman Chad's ex-wife zingers and "I believe they're the Ragin'Cajins".

If I have to pick a winner it's - Eric Buchman - 34,800,000. He's got the right size stack, he's already posted over a $1 million in tournament winnings, and he's been on a hella run leading up to the final 9. Of course Ivey is in the mix and Im loving the hoards of fish that have flocked onto Full Tilt. My account is looking at +$275.00 and all b/c fish love playing two suited cards and A.anything. Trust me, with all the hype this WSOP is getting b/c of Ivey it's like a mini-second poker boom since Moneymaker. Also, some States are now allowed back online.

Another favourite is Jeff Shulman - 19,580,000 who is editor at Cardplayer magazine. He's been playing only made hands and is not making any mistakes. He's gone as far to say he'd throw the 'ugly bracelet in the garbage' and will never play another hand of poker if he wins it all .. gotta love the villian.

Personally, this concept sucks.

Last year's final table was terribly played as a result of the wait.

I can understand the need to generate revenue and the increase this provides ESPN & the WSOP in viewership and $$$. Not to mention the results/hype getting killed via the internet & other media while the series airs.

However if they are going to do the final 9, they should do it live. If not the full thing, then a 2 day split with the first day starting early with an evening broadcast. Then repeat that for day 2.

Or play/record the final 9 until it's down to only 2, then take a day off and edit it for broadcast and airs the heads up live with an hr or two from the elimination footage.

Everyone is going to know the results before a thing is seen with the current setup, and that sucks.

There are comparisons made between poker & golf all the time. Hopefully one day poker can be televised similar to a major PGA event.

My pick as well, although Moon has been solid.

Two big time momments this yr on ESPN :
1. Pocket AA get mucked by the dealer - Some French Hottie didnt protect her hand and the dealer mucked her cards ... but she did take the beat well.

2. Ivey mucks the winning hand - he had 88 and hit a one card flush with the 8 of spades in his pocket BUT mucked his hand when someone showed a pair of Aces. It was a $2 million pot .. crazy!!

Those are both insane! I need to see these asap!

In anticpation of the upcoming final table i put together a quick compilation of Youtube vids last night with some of the largest cash game pots i could find. 7 hands with a total prize pot of about $3.86 million

The second last vid is the nastiest call ever by Patrik Antonius. so sick

How To Lose $1.93 Million in 7 Hands of Poker

OMG, I saw that yesterday! I couldn't believe it... I know he was tired and all, but this is not his first tourney and I just didn't expect that from Ivey.

As much as I would love to see Phil win, i think Darvin Moon has this locked up.

That said, I think the layoff hurts moon big time, and will benefit the vetran players.

The first 10 hands will decide this. Can't wait for this weekend to watch.

After watching Moon slow play AA and get it broken by trip Js I would say Moon is the cash cow and will get milked. I dont think he's going to make the huge calls and risk $8-9 million unless he has close to the nuts. I dont see him playing big stack poker - overly aggressive and playing random cards. I think Moon's stack will go consistently down and yes the break will hurt him the most.

Chin - good selection of videos. Quad 5s vs 6fullof5s was the best show down. Daniel had to make the call .. especially since we saw Antonios call a $100K on K high. Also Bronson showing no respect for Guy and instant calling the re-raise.

Anyone else been following high stakes action online??? Theres been some crazy games with a unknown newbie going on a hella bender ...

Isildur1 takes a 5M+ hit
The life of a high stakes poker player is nothing if not interesting. Win a fortune one day, lose it the next. For Isildur1 these past few weeks has certainly been a rollercoaster the like of which we have never seen before. And yesterday he again made some kind of history, losing a total of 5.3 million dollars to a wide range of players.

When there is blood in the water, the sharks show up in great numbers, and this was certainly the case during this period. The table to the right shows everyone who took on Isildur1, as well as their results against him. The usual suspects reign at the top of the list, but there was enough to go around for some of the others as well.

In total, Isildur1 has lost about $1.3M over the last six weeks, and when you consider that durrrr hast lost about five million dollars to him, you could say that the main thing that Isildur1 has done is to spread durrrr’s money around to the other players. The main beneficiary has been Phil Ivey, who won $2.7M, followed by Ziigmund and Patrik Antonius with $1.9M each, while Brian Townsend was also able to get away with a $1.7M win

Isildur1 has played well over 130 000 hands in this period, so his total losses are well within the expected variance, but seeing the way he tanked over the last few days you have to think that there was some element of tilt involved. There will obviously be speculations as to whether he is bust or not a this point, and without giving an opinion on this, I will just say that his accumulated results now are only $100K better than at his low point in the beginning of November. And this only two and a half weeks after he reached the $6M plateau. The graph shows his accumulated winnings since October 23rd, when he first turned up at these stakes. It is a tale of peaks and valleys, so let’s hope for his sake that he is be able to make another comeback.
