stop addicting me!

there he goes, addicting again!

that stuff is addicting.

nope, doesn't sound right to me.

dictionary.com does say it's a word but doesn't give examples of usage. only includes it as a version of addict.

lol - a search picked this up from someone's blog ...

Is addicting even a word? I looked it up, and it's in the dictionary, but I don't think it used to be a real word. Also, if it is a real word, I don't get the difference between addicting and addictive. Dictionary.com was not very helpful at clarifying.

... i would have to wholeheartedly agree with this person's comments.

examples i have found on other sites just seem to use it the same way as addictive. like they're interchangeable.

nice. he is addicting himself to it. sounds a bit odd, but it's a better example than others i've found. at least it uses it differently than you can use addictive.

Adjective - " cocaine is an addictive substance"

vs.

Verb - "John is going to end up addicting himself to blow"

They're both words, they're just commonly misused.

Because you've heard a few too many people use the terms incorrectly. Addicting, the verb, isn't very common because addiction is usually treated in the past tense (i.e. "he's addicted to blow" rather than the present). Most people replace "addictive" with "addicting" though thinking that they're the same, when they're not.

If you say it, and at least one other person knows what you mean, then it's a word.
