the rob ford show

the biggest fuckface on city council is having a rough week. i'm sure it makes me a bad person, but i'm thoroughly enjoying it.

City hall could use a maverick councillor who pinches pennies, is unafraid to scold the bureaucracy and who speaks for the average person.

What it doesn't need is a lying, foul-mouthed, irrational councillor. What it doesn't need is Rob Ford.

By his own admission, this Ward 2 councillor, who represents Etobicoke North, engaged in a series of obscenity-laced rants while attending a Maple Leafs hockey game at the Air Canada Centre in mid-April.

When asked to tone down his comments by Dan Hope, who was watching the game with his wife, Rebecca, Ford lashed out spewing vicious obscenities at both of them.

He was eventually escorted out by Air Canada Centre security staff.

No member of the public should have to suffer such abuse from an elected official. To their credit, the Hopes did not drop the matter.

They did not know the identity of the man who had confronted them but Ford had conveniently left behind a business card identifying him as a Toronto city councillor. And the couple, from Enniskillen in Durham Region, sent a letter of complaint to Toronto city clerk Ulli Watkiss.

When reporters asked about the incident, Ford denied he had gone to the game, claimed he was being slandered, and alleged he was the victim of a "hatchet job."

That story changed a day later, when Ford admitted he had lied and that the Hopes were telling the truth.

Ford's explanation for his ill-mannered behaviour was that he drank "one too many beers" before the game and was also experiencing "a few personal problems." His excuse for lying was that he was gripped by embarrassment.

Amazingly, even in the wake of his inexcusable conduct, Ford fancies himself a potential candidate for mayor. That is laughable. He should not be on city council at all.

If he has any lingering respect for the job of councillor, and the need that it be done well, Ford won't seek re-election in the Nov. 13 municipal race. If he does run, hopefully he will be challenged — and defeated — by a strong rival candidate.

Surely there is someone able to serve Etobicoke residents better than Rob Ford. Given his lamentable conduct, there must be many. They need to step forward.

“My sister was a heroine addict and was shot in the head.”

“You right wing Communist bastards.”

“Green Party fucking rules.”

“Do you want your little wife to go over to Iran and get raped and shot?”

the letter of complaint sent to the city clerk's office is here:

"Right wing communist bastards" That's amazing. Keith is a "Zionist Islamofascist".

You know what, I've always considered running for city council. I think I would do a great job and could get myself elected too.

SellyCat for City Council. Will you help me put up signs?

That would be awesome, and knowing his stubborn bloated ass he'd probably stick it to the end an split the right wing lunatic constituency by the .5% of votes he'd probably garner. I think I'll take a page from the book of Putin and start a campaign website to elect Ford for mayor. Who's in?!

i read about this a couple of days ago when he was still denying it, calling it a "hatchet" job. i totally thought it was a case of mistaken identity. i know they had his business card but i figured it was possible some ruckus causer was handing out other people's business cards.

i can't believe the retards we elect

'IT JUST MAKES ME SICK' FORD QUOTES ARE RAM TOUGH

Rob Ford, councillor for Etobicoke North, is no stranger to headlines, and he was back in the news again this week after an out-of-town couple complained about "belligerence and obscenities" he displayed at an Easter weekend Leafs game at the Air Canada Centre. The allegations, which Mr. Ford initially denied, didn't surprise those who've listened to Mr. Ford in action in the past.

This is an insult to my constituents to even think about having a shelter in my ward!

-- April, 2002

Mr. Ford lets fly during a debate on whether there should be homeless shelters across the city, instead of only downtown.

I know he's a weasel and weasels and snakes belong in the zoo. I'm not letting this go. He did it out of spite.

-- Feb., 2003

Mr. Ford lashes out after returning late from lunch and learning that councillor George Mammoliti had pushed through an increase to the Toronto Zoo's funding.

It just makes me sick when you left-wing nut jobs like Howard Moscoe are down here trying to bash the police non-stop.

-- Feb., 2003

Mr. Ford reacts to councillor Howard Moscoe's suggestion that police overtime be audited.

To me, if you are going to water plants, water all the plants. You just don't pick and choose what plants you've got to water.

-- April, 2004

Mr. Ford alleged his plants weren't being tended by staff. His poinsettia died; Ford called it "plant discrimination." He later tried to scrap the watering service.

Pathological liars.

-- June, 2004

Mr. Ford describes fellow councillors during a debate. He apologized but insisted 'The truth is the truth.'

This is so foolish. What are we going to ban next? Fireplaces?

-- Sept., 2004

Mr. Ford criticizes a bylaw requiring permits and a fee to fell any tree thicker than 30 centimetres.

I don't understand. No. 1, I don't understand a transgender, I don't understand, is it a guy dressed up like a girl or a girl dressed up like a guy? And we're funding this for, I don't know, what does it say here? We're giving them $3,210?

-- June 2005

Mr. Ford queries grant programs funded from the city coffers.

People do not want government housing built in the city of Toronto. They want roads fixed, more police presence, but they don't want more government housing that will depreciate the value of their property.

-- July, 2005

Mr. Ford questions the need to speed up construction of affordable housing.

She's a joke. She's a waste of time. A waste of skin.

-- July, 2005

Mr. Ford on councillor Gloria Lindsay Luby, during a debate over a pothole.

Giving the mayor more power for this council is like giving criminals free guns.

-- Dec., 2005

Mr. Ford during a debate on a new structure for city government. The comment drew a chorus of demands, ultimately unsuccessful, that he withdraw the remark.

Tangent: He's an idiot no doubt and his statement is incredibly stupid. That said, Miller responds that the the largest growing group of people contracting HIV/AIDS is women. On top of that the UN number is cited reagrding hetero, non drug users. Is it not disingenous to cite these numbers as they appear to include Africa?

hal, i have to agree with you. i find it misleading when north american politicians and lobbyists throw around stats about AIDS from africa as though the same thing holds true here.
i am not at all trying to downplay the epidemic in africa, but its clearly a very different situation than the spread of AIDS in north america.

It [the statistics] should be broken down to as localised a geographic area as possible, because trends, demographics, institutions, and capabilities can vary from region to region even in the same country.
