Voodoo Ray remixes

i absolutely cherish this track - never would have thought that anyone can butcher it for me ever.

until dj spen. anyone heard his remix yet?

what's with the influx of new voodoo ray remixes anyway?

still feel that carlos fuerte's version is the bomb.

i'll have to give it a listen and see if it's like the DJ Spen one (i.e. bad)

no, but i have heard similar horror stories about it.
strangely enough, this makes me want to hear it more than i would have otherwise...

its all kind of odd considering spen's history, which makes it all the more intriguing.

odd how? i liked some of his stuff - but can't say i like his style overall.

didn't think he'd put the curse on voodoo ray though.

naw, just that he's been around for a loong time, and done some really good original stuff(some mediocre as well of course).
from a vet like him, i'd expect some very careful treatment before doing something like this.

edit:
i just listened to it now, and its not as bad as some people are telling it, but its really not very good.
i dunno - why do this(the remix) anyway?

Because its a classic track and higly recognizable so if you can actually pull off a good remix, you assume that all those people that love the original would buy the more updated remix as well... at least thats why i would do it (not that i ever could or would but if..)

ha... I've been wanting to do a remix of this for a long time.

I haven't heard the one in question... maybe mine won't be as bad??

hopefully I can pull off another "Dub"

i understand that, but i meant from the point of view of spen.
here's a guy who's been doing largely garage music for centuries, doing it well, and more or less ignoring changing musical tastes(and the burgeoning sales that accompany them) to do things his own way, and then he pulls off a very underpar remix of a tune like this.

i'm not surprised that it gets remixed, but by spen?
the name surprised me more than the recent effervescent montage of remixes.

Someone just gave me a Sade remix (I think?) of yours. Really like it!

what's with all the remixes of classic anthems coming out these days?
anyone heard the kenny dope mix of the jungle brothers?
of course there's also that strings of life thing that's been big for a while.
i mean, i love classics too, but what does it say when that's the focus in the deep house scene these days?

i haven't heard the spen mix of voodoo ray, and i'm surprised it's getting such negative reviews, as i usually find him pretty consistent. did he totally rework it, or just soul it up a little bit?

Personally, I think a good update of an old track is a fun thing to throw into your set. They'll obviously never replace the magic of the originals, but sometimes the classics need a good boost to fit in better with today's production quality.

In any case, I'd rather hear good boots of an old house track than all this 80's gash coming out.

Been really hating these remixes.

Strings of Life used to be a very special 9am, end of night record that came out of nowhere to put a smile on people's faces. A warm way to cap off an amazing night.

But for the past six months I hear it all the time. Midnight in the lounge at Boa being the worst. Really cheapened it.

Agreed on this one. Updating drums and making a few edits is one thing, but taking a bona fide classic and putting horrendous diva vocals on it 15 years later is a travesty.

the vocal one isn't very good, but the original soul central cover/remix was pretty decent, and useful.
adding the jazzy piano solo and changing up the feel slightly meant that i could play it with a wider variety of music.

Which version is on Paranoid Jack's mix from COmfort Zone on NYE? That was was excellent in my humbles opinion. FYI - the mix is awesome. Check it out if you havn't downloaded it yet from the DJ forum.
