What do get a boyfriend for a one year anniversary?

my friend lori and her boy have their one year anniversary coming up and she wants fun and cool and different ideas. I can come up with nothing original, so i thought i'd ask tribe for help.

Dear tribe, help lori come up with something fun and exciting for her one year with john!

She has a fairly big budget to blow on it. What are cool things you have done for one year anniversarys??

a watch is pretty standard (she could make it even better by getting it inscribed.... thus ensuring that if the relationship ever tanks he'll have to get a new watch or explain to subsequent gfs why he wears a watch that says 'LuvU4life, huggybear!" on it).

What is the guy into? Maybe she should just put some thought into what's important to him rather than just using the Cosmo Girls Guide to Anniversary Gifts.

Not for one year anniversaries, but gifts I've previously got for my bf:

trip to NYC
piece of art
vintage watch (super hard to find, specific model he had freaked over)
Tiffany's ring (mens obviously, he loves it, really classic)

A trip is a great idea.

I borrowed a Mercedes C240 from my old work, drove us to Whistler where we went for dinner & drinks and then stayed overnight as a surprise for my ex's 30th. I gave him a palm pilot & a nice bottle of wine for his collection. He said he'd never been so spoiled in his life.

Damn I blew a lot of money on that guy!

I have our one-year anniversary coming up next month and I've been wondering the same thing. But I'd rather he not buy me anything and we just go out for a nice dinner or something.

most of my favourite gifts to give/receive have all been 'surprise events' planned in advance but in total surprise to the receiever, like going out for dinner, tickets to some sort of show or gallery, going to a bunch of stores in succession and having to buy at least one thing from each, etc ...

it's fun to look forward to something yet not know whatsoever what you're getting yourself into yeah it's manufactured spontaneity, but the whole point is showing the effort in thinking ahead ..

i would definitely stick to a nice dinner or something like that.
i dunno...1st year anniversary isn't that big of a deal...no need to mark it with some physical object.

Allie, I think the best gifts I've ever gotten are gifts that last in the memory, rather than a tangible object. Eg.concert tickets, dinner, a trip somewhere, etc. I love the idea of surprises, like zoo. Telling someone "i have a present for you. Dress like this, be ready to go at this time, and make sure you bring your _____." Building anticipation for a gift is the bestest!

Wherever you go, DO NOT WEAR UNDERWEAR. I can't stress this enough. You can actually save a lot of money this way, because he won't care if you're at freakin' McDonalds, just as long as you leave the undies at home.

i think one year is actually quite a big deal, especially as we get older and are less likely to stick with someone inappropriate for such a good chunk of time.

my suggestion is definitely a weekend away somewhere. something cheesey like niagara falls - fun houses and the casino followed by a heart-shaped tub!

I like you

I'd say a small trip somewhere for the weekend.I prefer memories as to matirial gifts for situations like this.

.......and don't wear underwear.
