Can I use any PVR Cable Box with Rogers?
I'm going to the States and want to pick up a PVR Cable Box. I'm with Rogers so does it have to be a "rogers" box or would any work? Does it have to be programmed to work with Rogers?

No, Rogers refuse any SA STBs that were not bought from them, or an authorized distributor.

Right. Rogers has to authorize the PVR from their side for it to work. One thing most people may not know is that if you're cable is every out and you feel like watching something that was previously recorded on the PVR you're SOL. Apparently the Rogers PVR has to authenticate even to playback recorded content.
Now if you go and buy yourself some regular PVR which accepts an analogue cable connection then I think you could plug in the Rogers cable and record any channels that are non digital. It's kinda like a glorified VCR at that point though. Lobo |
